Hi, has anyone taken Eltroxin for under active thyroid.

I was prescribed levothyroxine back in 2017, but didn’t help, private doctor said I was one of the 3% of patients that it didn’t help. So purchased T3 and Metavive 1 privately.

Haven’t been able to source the t3 so went back to NHS, they wouldn’t prescribe T3 but suggest the Eltroxin.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Eltroxin is just another brand of T4 - Levothyroxine - thyroid hormone replacement.

If you care to share your TSH, Free T3 and FreeT4 results and ranges whilst taking T4 medication we can advise if your conversion of T4 into T3 - the active hormone - is compromised and if you may do better on a combination of T3 and T4 thyroid hormone replacement.

No thyroid hormone replacement works well until your core strength vitamins and minerals - those of ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal levels which we can also advise on should you care to share any current readings / ranges you have to hand.

So did this private doctor initially oversee your treatment on T3 and metavive - ?

What were you actually taking dose wise and what were the results that I presume relieved your hypothyroidism ?

I'm presuming you are not under the private doctor any longer and the NHS refused to treat you with anything other than T4 - thyroid hormone - the cheapest option.

I would hazard a guess that around 25% of all those prescribed T4 monotherapy would feel better on a T3/T4 combo as these are the 2 vital thyroid hormones that the human thyroid gland produces on a daily basis - especially those people who for one reason or another have lost their thyroid function and those dealing with a thyroid AI disease which is systematically destroying and disabling their own thyroid gland.
