Since joining HealthUnlocked I have managed to find a new doctor who has agreed to become my GP. He immediately ordered blood test partly for a cardiology visit coming in June, but also for the T3 and T4 which I haven't had tested for a long while. My figures are:
TSH 6.53
T3 4.75
T4 16.55
So it seems that the TSH is too high compared 'to scale'. There seems to be some disbelief among fellow sufferers that the endo I saw some years ago determined that it was when my TSH was around 5 it would be ideal for me. At the time I certainly felt better in myself when TSH was just over 5.
I have already tried various changes to the thyroxine dose but haven't yet found the ideal dose because a slight change seems to cause a disproportionate change in the TSH.

None whatsoever. As far as I know there is no private testing. You get like a prescription from your doctor, you take it along to the lab, and if you ask nicely they might add on one or two extra things if you say you'll pay for them yourself. But not always. And getting doctors to test nutrients in my experience is very, very hard. They always have some 'good' reason why they shouldn't do it. I've given up!
@Buddy195: The tsh range is 0.55-4.78//FT3 is 3.5-6.5//FT4 is 11.5-22.7
@Slow2Dragon: Hmm... as far as I know, 'greygoose' is correct. I don't know of any private testing. I think it might be possible to get my new doctor to carry out some nutrient tests because he was very keen on getting my D tested, which was actually at the top of the scale. But it will be a few weeks before I see him again. I'll update when I have some other news.
Thanks for your interest. I'm just hoping somewhere along the line this story will help someone else. Bye for now.
