Does anyone here use collagen supplement and does it really help with hair or skin as they say? If you do which brand do you use and is it better in tablets or liquid form. Also how much do you take daily and for how long until you can notice any difference? Thanks.

I used a collagen powder protein from ‘My Protein’ instead of whey because I have a bad reaction to all dairy.
I made loads of bone broths too. Slow cooker, chicken carcass or beef joint bones boiled for hours.
Unfortunately the my protein one got some cross contamination from the production line so it’s longer safe for me. They now have ‘may contain’ on their labelling and gave me a full refund.
I ensure I get protein into every meal, eggs, meat, fish, quinoa, chia, etc. I’ve been listening to podcasts by Gabrielle Lyon and have her book forever strong.
For skin and hair, raising ferritin and vitamin D had the biggest impacts, biotin and B complex also. I think HRT has also contributed to firmer skin. That and gentle weights and resistance exercise firming me up generally. I used to run an organic award winning nailcare business in another lifetime. Nails are such a great indicator of past health (what’s growing out is 6 months old on fingers, 12 months on toes). So it takes time to recover this. 🌱
It's strange. I don't have any problem with my nails, they are growing like crazy, I don't have white spots. lines or anything on them. My my hair is falling out a lot in recent months, it's very dry and brittle and looks awful. There is simply no life in it. Also my skin doesn't look good at all. I blame this on the fact that I had terrible things happening in my life in the last year or so, one after another and stress has been constant. But it's just what I think. I was also ill a lot with all sorts of viruses and bacteria diseases. I just recovered from almost 4 weeks of virus that very well could the the thing that is currently spreading from China and India (first they were telling it's a new pandemic now they suddenly stopped writing about it). When I had any problem with my hair earlier I always took biotin tabs mostly and also b12 or b complex injections. But now it seems that collagen is a new thing. Anyway, I can try since biotin doesn't seem to work for me anymore. Earlier it did wonders.
I took it for a while but didnt notice any difference.
Well, that's why I asked. In every supplement store I enter they always tell me "why don't you take collagen it's the best thing for hair" earlier they were telling different things like biotin, B complex and similar. On the internet the same thing. Everything that's in "trend" nowadays is suspicious to me. 10 or 15 years ago you were able to find useful info what to do. Not anymore, now they are all like parrots, on the internet, in stores. Somebody says that something is "great" and all the other follow.
I get mine from british supplements. It takes about a month to see results with hair skin and nails but i think they are worth it. Ive been taking them over 12months now.....
How much do you take daily? I think it depends a lot on this. If for example I don't take enough than i would just be wasting money on it.
I take Ape Nutrition collagen powder. From organic beef with no antibiotics. Hard to tell if its made a difference as I've had low thyroid for 12 months. I think my nails would be worse without it. Once my thyroid is sorted I'll really see if it is worth it. My physio recommended it for any in the 60's due to ageing cartilage and muscles.
Dietary collagen requires digesting, plus vitamins and minerals from fruit and veggies and then the body will decide how and where to make use of it, which may prove disappointing as we age. The amino acids for our collagen synthesis can be expected to be available from a variety of food sources, but devotees may wish to follow the Chinese and try pigs' trotters. Glycine-rich foods include meats and fish, particularly with gristle or skin, but beans are also a good source, and we don't see many vegetarians and vegans collapsing due to lack of connective tissue.
Yes. I was vegetarian for 8 years because I love animals. However, since being sick I sadly returned to eating meat but only fish (and other seafood), pork and beef. Nothing else. My digestion is bad, besides for not being treated for hypothyroidism for years (I am on proper treatment now but maybe too late) I also have other health problems so my body now works in mysterious ways. I can digest protein, but other things stay in my stomach sometimes for 8-12 hours depending on what I ate. Some veggies are hard for me to digest.
I don't use collagen supplements I use high dose Choline.
I remember I was using it years ago but I don't remember for what. Does it have similar effect like vitamins B?
Yes, it also helps your liver and gallbladder. The brain and memory loves it. It helps repair myelin. So good for long and short term memory. I find it more amazing for joints, hair and skin than collagen. I also take desiccated liver capsules as I cannot stand eating liver. I take Rosita cod liver oil with lemon too. And b5 to help me focus.
Hi! what form of choline and B5 do you take?
I take collagen in powdered form-buy it off Amazon- Wellguard. Started taking it to help a ligament injury in my ankle which had persisted for over a year.
I believe the collagen has helped my joints and ligaments as they’re all fine. However, can’t say my skin, hair and nails are any different or if so, it’s pretty subtle!!
I have just started using Bone Balance Collegan powder in the hope of helping my early onset osteoporosis, if it helps my thinning hair and dry skin, that will be a plus. You just take one scoopful in a drink daily. A lot of Collegan supplements aren't very pure and more of a gimmick, so be careful what you buy if you don't want to waste your money.
I'm currently trying Nutrivita pure collagen hydrolysate powder for my joints and ligaments. It's early days but I'm hoping it will help my awful skin and hair too.I'm eating eggs and oily fish more often. I've also added chia seeds to my meals as they contain omega 3's so should help with my skin and hair problems.
Is it Nutrivita or or Nutravita. I found collagen on both. Those supplement companies really should be a bit more innovative with their names How much do you take daily?
It's the Nutravita one, sorry I forgot to check my spelling!I've started with 1 scoop (10g) a day but I may increase to 2 scoops if there's no improvements after a month or so. I bought it from Amazon for about £20 and its a 500g tub so one tub will last for 50 days if I stick to one scoop a day.
I take about a tablespoon of Hunter and Gather collagen powder every morning in my coffee. Either Bovine or marine and it’s often less expensive from Amazon. Can’t be certain as I’m always active anyway but I think it helps
My integrative GP recently advised me to take a herb called horsetail for hair loss. I haven’t tried it yet.
