Iodine by mistake

Hi Everyone

I’m Hashis hypo and reasonably well controlled with Levo and Lio. Recently I used a multivitamin skin patch for around 6 weeks before discovering it contains 150 iodine! I react to iodine so avoid it at almost all costs.

According to doctor (v helpful) it can remain in the system for sometime and nothing I can do to hurry it up. She thinks I’m over med and should reduce my thyroid T4 meds.

I do feel over medicated and it’s not pleasant. I would like to ask if I’m better to stop Levo and just use T3 for a while as it’s more controllable.

my T4 is 11.9 (12-21) andcTSH suppressed as always and I’m waiting for T3 results.

would be really grateful fir any thoughts as im worried about not taking enough meds for a prolonged period

Thanks

First of all, wouldn’t worry too much about the iodine. Not sure how likely it is you’ve absorbed much through your skin anyway. Sounds a bit gimmicky.

But secondly, what makes you think you’re overmedicated? How much T3 and levothyroxine are you taking? Your FT4 is under range and it’s not unusual to have a suppressed TSH when you take any amount of liothyronine—it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re over medicated.

If you think you are over-medicated, what signs & symptoms do you have? Temperature and pulse can be a good indicator of overmedication.
