Hi.. I'm hoping for some info & help I can give to my son.. he's nearly 31 & just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism...his tsh was 130. His doctor has told him to start on 75mg of levothyroxine after he had a bad reaction to some other medication he first prescribed....does 75mg sound too much to start on? I thought 50mg was a starter & then go up in 25mg increments? Many thanks for any help...

Some people will tolerate 75mcgs right at the start, others not. Probably because his TSH is so high they want some faster results and so have prescribed a slightly higher dose.
He could see how he goes on 75mcgs and if he has issues then reduce, or just start at 50mcgs.
Hopefully you have got him to test all his key vitamin levels? Ideally if he can become a member here and post his own rsults its easier than dealing with a third party but hes very lucky to have you.
Thank you for your reply...he's been prescribed vencamil 75mg so hopefully that will work OK for him & to start on 75mg. I'm hoping he will become a member on here so he can post test results etc...& gleem some info that can help him with everything he needs to look at. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
