Ferritin & Vitamin D

Apologies as this isn’t a thyroid related question, but I know people on here are very knowledgeable. My 11 year old daughter gets extremely tired, much more than you’d expect given how much she sleeps. The GP agreed to bloods and results came back today (they were very thorough and thankfully her thyroid is fine). They told me they were in range so I asked for a copy. Her Vitamin D is 51 (range 50-999) and her Ferritin is 18.8 (range 8.8-115).

Despite the GP saying they’re fine, I’m sure the above must be the cause or at least contributing to her fatigue. I’d really appreciate some thoughts. Thank you.

she’d feel better if those those results were closer to 100. In range as you guessed isn’t optimal. Poor love she must be cream crackered.

We always say D3 with K2 here, my levels are higher and I take 4000iu a day but usually folks start with a loading dose of day 8000iu for 3 months and retest.

Ferritin I’d ask the GP for a full iron panel, if you have it already post it in a reply and others will comment. It’s important to know her other levels before dosing the ferritin. She may have iron deficiency without anaemia or she may have anaemia.

Did they do B12? Is she veggie or vegan? Picky eater?

Thank you so much. I cried when I read the results as I felt so awful about how tired she must feel. She doesn’t really eat meat these days.

Her B12 wasn’t active, so I’m not sure how valid it is. But levels were 442.

He didn’t do a full iron panel unfortunately.

My daughter started back on a little chicken and fish when we had similar results (she was 18 though at the time). She realised her environmental concerns were affecting her health. Many manage with supplements etc I have a vegan nephew who is popping all sorts to keep up balanced nutrition. What no one can do for long is veggie or vegan without replacing what is missing.

I prefer a heme iron supplement and use Three Arrows Simply Heme, it’s really effective, doesn’t cause constipation and doesn’t require avoiding foods and drinks. But again I’d be concerned starting that without a full iron panel result.
