new results - now over medicated!

Still clawing my way back to some form of better health after contracting Covid in May but things are seemingly going in the right direction.

It seems my thyroid med dose is now too high though! Potentially because my folate and iron are so much better with supplementation.

I’ve been feeling extra anxious and struggling with sleep again a bit the last few weeks so being over medicated would explain things there. I’ve dropped my NDT back a 1/4 based on this. My labs are always done AM fasting before I take any meds or supplements.

Is my vitamin d still too low though? Could my ferritin do with coming up a bit more? I’m still waiting on my full iron panel to come back. This printable version of the report doesn’t show the folate range but on the other section it seems to suggest the upper range is 43.3 so it’s now very high in range.

I’m still having a few horrible symptoms but I’ve just had a comprehensive gut test come back too and that’s pretty dang awful, it suggests I’m not absorbing carbs and fats well whatsoever, very low bifido bacteria levels also and some nasties in a bit too high quantities but good levels of a lot of lactobacillus species. I need to work on this clearly and get a bit more advice on it, completing Sibo breath testing next week too.

The report is suggesting I would benefit from betaine hcl/digestive enzymes though and some targeted probiotics.

Thankfully no pathogens, parasites, yeasts or markers for “leaky gut” though. So small mercies.

good work, you are on the right track now, you will just have to watch your FT4 doesn’t drop too low with the 1/4 grain reduction.

Betaine with pepsin is wonderful stuff 👍

Ooh can I ask what the gut test is? Did you do it through a functional medicine Dr? 🙂

I’ve done both the Healthpath and the gut zoomer. They both said the same thing essentially but for the price the gut zoomer was way more comprehensive and broke it down into quite a lot of detail. That one can only be done with a practitioner unfortunately. It was nice to see that two different tests came back showing the same problems though made me question the reliability less.

My GP has an interest in functional medicine and did say I can bring the results to him for this and the Sibo testing so I do intend to do that too to see what he says.

Fab thanks! If you recommend your functional dr, could you please PM me? Thanks so much 😊

He’s American so that’s a bit of a pain unfortunately. I would prefer someone here but when I was interviewing a few people he was the best at the time and I was desperate to get cracking with some testing as I was in such a bad way so whilst I do like him and the testing he uses is very good I would like someone here eventually as practically it would just be better.

Finding people that understand rather than chucking loads of supplements at you is also actually very difficult indeed.

I’m also finding it hard to find people that understand the complete picture well so at the moment I have a separate thyroid doctor that’s very good on NDT and thyroid labs but that’s her niche and a GP that understands functional med testing and gut testing and is good on things like Sibo, adrenals etc. but isn’t very good on thyroid/NDT or B12. So I’m always sort of seeing people in bits and pieces and their opinions and knowledge conflict!

Ah totally understand! Yes I have a thyroid dr but am on the hunt for someone a bit more therapeutic I think.

I doubt you are over-medicated if you haven't increased your dose. More likely to be a Hashi's swing. But reducing your NDT is the way to go, just don't be suprised when you need to put it up again. :)

You have low stomach acid, like most hypos. And that's why your gut test came back awful.

Hi Littledancingtiger, please could you tell me more about the gut test you had done? What did they test? Which company? Many thanks.x

Gut Zoomer from Vibrant - you can find a sample report online. I’ve had years of antibiotics and my GP was concerned of the effect on my microbiome.

How many hours was the test after last dose of NDT?

Littledancingtiger profile image

always done under same conditions - last dose is at 2pm the day before and tests always taken fasting before meds between 8-9am - I try to keep it consistent and used to be able to get appointments a bit earlier between 7-8am but can’t now due to availability so it tends to more be 9am these days.
