Thyroid Erfa batch problem

Hello!

Anybody else having sudden problems with Erfa? I have used it for years. I was feeling fine before I started a new batch about a month ago. About 2 days after starting a new batch all the problems started. My migraine also got very much worse. I almost feel like going crazy? And this is certainly not normal for me to be like this. I am going to ask my doctor about it. But I am just wondering if anybody else has had this problem with Erfa?

It might help if you let us know the batch number, what expiry date, and what dosage you are having issues with.

And which country you are in.

And if you got it from an authorised pharmacy with a prescription - or otherwise.

Does the packaging or contents look in any way different?

The dosage is 60 mg, 100 tablets in one bottle. And the lot number is 23F19, expire date 06/2026

I take 2 tablets a day. I have felt fine, better than for a long time and then the batch changed. I didn't first realize it could be the batch, but I started to get this feeling in my throat over the thyroid like somebody is squeeshing it. Pressure over it. And this feeling is familiar to me because I have had it if the dosage changes or there is a problem. So from that I realized there might be some problem with the batch. And it is like dropping really down. I was doing so fine and now all the symptoms are back and some worsened like my migraine is terrible now.

I am in Finland and it is with a prescription. About the looks it may be that the pill looks a bit more shiny.

I asked at the pharmacy that if they would order an other bottle to me to see if it was another batch, but they said that it is very likely that it is the same batch anyway that it wouldn't help to order another one. I don't know if that is true.

I hope someone else has that batch and can reply helpfully.

yes definitely, a few months ago a new batch has brought my hypo symptoms back with a vengeance! Heart palpitations all day long, chronic fatigue the list goes on and on. I knew as soon as I started a new batch it was wrong. It’s happened before years ago and with Armour. Running out of ideas now as need to try another NDT as the Erfa hasn’t got better.

I'm sorry to hear you have the same kind of an experience. I knew about two days after starting a new batch that something was wrong. My health collapsed. I was fine for a long time and now everything is gone because of the new batch. Hard to believe, but have to accept it. I've had the same thing happen once with Naturthroid and Armour. Erfa worked for a long time and now this happens. I'm also a bit confused about what to do. I don't know if my doctor is too enthusiastic to try something new. The pharmacist tried to find me another batch yesterday, but this batch was the only one in my country.

No, I didn't get any batch and I have felt terrible since that. Because I have had to use the batch that I think was making my symptoms worse. But today at the pharmacy they were able to give me a new batch, another batch. I can get it on Thursday. I am so hopeful now. How are you doing?

I have got worse since a different batch a few months ago. So many hypo symptoms especially heart palpitations all day long. My temperature has dropped to 35.9 to 36 along with chronic exhaustion, brain fog etc My batch number is LF31040A exp 05/2026 i knew as soon as I had a different batch it has lost its strength. Let me know your batch number and hopefully it will be ok? Thanks

I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well with that batch. Do you have any chance to switch to another batch? You know it when it is a bad batch. You just fall down with all the symptoms. I was feeling so good before this terrible batch. It is so frustrating.

I will let you know about the new batch I am getting on Thursday. I hope it is a better one and I will get my life back.

to be honest I have had a few different batch numbers over the past 6 months and buy from a couple of different pharmacy’s but still feeling the same. I hope you will feel better on a new batch. Please let me know I’m wondering if there has been some changes when the company was sold. Fingers crossed you feel better. I am thinking of trying NP a different NDT. Thanks

Ok. When was the company sold?I felt extra good when using another batch last year. My health was better than ever before. It was hard to take it, when everything changed after this bad batch, that made me sick. I compared the pills, I had a pill from the good batch and one from the bad batch. The "bad" pill is clearly whiter, more solid and the cover kind of harder. The good one was darker and softer. Like the new pill would had been made so that the cover is harder. I really hope there have not been some changes the company has made to the process of making.

ERFA Acquired by Searchlight Pharma

ERFA, the provider of the desiccated thyroid product for hypothyroid patients across Canada was acquired by Searchlight Pharma last January. Mark Nawacki, President & CEO of Searchlight Pharma, informed the Thyroid Foundation of Canada that nothing will change with respect to the Thyroid product. It will be the same formulation, same manufacturer, and will continue to be available to patients in Canada without interruptions.

And Searchlight are now part of Apotex.

I am really really sensitive to any changes in my medications. So if there is even a small change of how it is made or a filler change I will suffer severe hypo symptoms. I noticed a change months ago and since then I have been really bad. It feels like I a. Not taking any thyroid meds at all.

I am sorry to hear that. I am also quite sensitive to changes in thyroid meds. I have had to change the brand many times because of that. With Erfa it has been quite good for a long time, but now there is something wrong with it and I don't know what. If this new batch doesn't help, I don't know what to do. By the way I didn't get the new batch yet. Because of the holidays I will get it tomorrow. I am eager to see if it is any better, the other batch.
