Help with Iron Panel

As suggested, I'm posting a separate post to ask for assistance interpreting my Iron panel. (I've included a couple of extra bits).

Wondering how to interpret the ferritin alongside ok CRP?

Any guidance, on any of it, appreciated.

Plasma CRP 2.1 ((0 - 5.0)

IRON 16.8 (5.8 - 34.5)

TRANSFERRIN 2.1 (2.0 - 3.6)

SATURATION 34.4% (20 - 55)

FERRITIN 229 (13 - 150)

SERUM TIBC 48.9 (50 - 90)

B12 629 (197 - 771)

FOLATE 9.1 (3.0 - 26.9)

Thank you :-)

These results tie in with chronic illness, so no surprise after the year you have had, you would benefit from adding a folate supplement with it currently only at 25%

Do you have any cortisol results? I'm thinking a cortisol saliva test would be useful to find out your 'free' levels whereas a blood test only gives 'total' levels

Hello there,

Thank you - I will try and find a good folate supplement.

Another blood test I had in June was morning cortisol to check adrenal function - endo said fine.

440 ( 133 - 537)

I am a mystery. Annoyingly.

I'd suggest a cortisol saliva test would be worth investigating if affordable to you...

I will look into that then - I'm up for trying anything really!

Lupus has also had a mention... waiting on rheumatology in November... really don't want that.

Hmmm, I don't know anything about Lupus other than it often comes with a butterfly rash on your face? Have you had a rummage around their forum?

It was interesting to read the response from  Mrst1982 on your other post

My blood cortisol was always lower than yours 292ish but considered 'fine' and passed a SST.... when I checked my 'free' levels they were on or below baseline confirming adrenal fatigue

Did you check it with the saliva test? How do you treat? (Jumping the gun.. lol)

(I do get facial flushing too - combined with positive ANA - hence rheumatology referral. I'm so over it all.)

Yes, I've done a few saliva tests

Facial flushing can be related to niacin do you take supplements containing it?

If you click on my name/picture it will take you to my Bio where I've tried to log my journey

No... no supplements with niacin.

Just read your bio... well done you!!! Quite a marathon :-)

It's a bit of a long game we have to play but for most huge improvements are possible, self-advocacy is essential which is why this forum is such a huge help to so many 🙏

I'm trying.... (I'm sure they find me very trying.. lol). I remember exercise and energy... so jealous :-)

Hopefully, tomorrow, dual t3/t4 might help nudge things along. Fingers crossed.

I will order that cortisol test though and work on folate.

We'll get you there, a word of warning T3 is powerful stuff so take it slowly to give your body time to adjust 🤗slowly, slowly catchy monkey

Oh I'm so slow, the monkey 🐒 doesn't worry about me catching him... he stands three feet away and flips me the bird :-)

But yes... I'm nervous... teeny weeny, super slow, suits me just fine. It's taken me long enough to get to this functioning (ish) level of awful! I guard even that...
