Blood test results - feeling hopeful!

Hi all,

Since my last blood test I’ve gone from 100mg to 125g of levothyroxine, I've taken one B complex tablet a day and I'm also taking two viviscal tablets daily to try and help with the hair loss. I've also been GF for about four months.

The doctor said my vitamin D levels are low, but everything else is looking good. They tested more back in July than this time, I'm not sure why so slightly more limited results below:

TSH - 0.31 mu/L (0.30-4.20)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies - didn't test

Ferritin- didn't test

Follate - 6.1 ug/L (3.0-20.0)

Vitamin B12 - 455 ng/L (180-640)

Vitamin D - 47.6 nmol/L (>50.00)

Any suggestions on actions on the above? When should I next get a blood test and what do I need to ask for? My NHS won't test T3 so should I do a private one to get some more results?

Thank you for your help🙂

So 3 months ago results were

TSH - 2.99 mu/L (0.30-4.20)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies - 307 iu/mL (0-34)

Ferritin- 62 ug/L (28-200)

Follate - 5.2 ug/L (3.0-20.0)

Vitamin B12 - 396 ng/L (180-640)

Vitamin D - 87.8 nmol/L (>50.00)

Vitamin D has dropped significantly

Vitamin D - 47.6 nmol/L (>50.00)

How much vitamin D have you been taking

Vitamin B complex

Which one are you taking

B12 and folate improved a bit

With B12 below 500 you need a separate B12 as well as B complex

Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

B12 range in U.K. is too wide

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate

And why aiming to keep B12 over 500 recommended

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

So yes next test get TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 tested

Retest vitamins at least annually …..and ideally antibodies too

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hi SlowDragon,

Thank you for your detailed reply! Having someone who can explain the results and the importance of the different levels is so incredibly helpful.

I am currently taking these vitamin B tablets as recommend by an admin in one of my previous posts: igennus.com/products/super-...

I currently take no vitamin D specific supplement, do you have suggestions on shag to take?

I will order the additional B12 tablet, thank you for the suggestions.

I shall book in a private medichecks test for December to see how my levels are doing.

If I start taking a vitamin d supplement, does it have to be a combo of vitamin k2 mk7 with vitamin d? I read something about it impacting calcium?
