post iron infusion ferritin 600! Is this ok?? And dry mouth on NDT

Hello thyroid forum friends

I had an iron infusion three weeks ago at my request. Trying to resolve ongoing tiredness which is increasingly hard to manage. I’ve had low ferritin and/or haemaglobin most of my adult life.

Prior to infusion my ferritin had just reached 66 that’s with taking three arrows iron. Today my blood test came back at 600! The GP signed it off as normal 🤔 the range for ferritin is 5-204

haemaglobin rose to 127 it was 114 prior to infusion. Range 110-150. Prior to infusion it was dropping despite taking iron!

My platelets are 423, range 150-400. They were over the range January then dropped til now.

MCH was 26.9 range 27.32 🤷‍♀️ prior to infusion was 26.1

MCHC was 319 range 320-360. Prior to infusion was 313

MCH and MCHC are I believe indicators of iron deficiency. How can I still be iron deficient after the blast of the iron infusion?

Transferrin saturation is now 37%. Range less than 20% not good. Prior to infusion 22% another indicator of anaemia..

Sorry to blind you with so many results am a little worried re the ferritin rising so high.

The worst of it is I feel no better or less tired which is so disappointing. Maybe after 50 years of it (first discovered age 18 when donating blood) it’s not easy to change.. I wish I knew. 😥 should I be asking to see a haematologist?

I have a Randox thyroid test kit for next week just to double check these levels are still ok.

And one more question does anyone on NDT have a very dry mouth? Am borderline sjogrens but this has been awful and I think it began when I switched to NDT. Am still awaiting an endo appointment I was referred 8 months ago 🤦‍♀️😲

Thanks for reading 💜

Hi, I had the same Ferinject infusion and my ferritin increased to 400. I had the injection in two sessions. 500mg each week. the ferritin dropped eventually. but it took some time. I went to see a consultant requesting an antidote. He said that this would drop—nothing to worry. I spoke to my GP and the response was the same. no treatment. Best wishes.

Thanks for this comforting reply I guess mine will indeed drop as I don’t store/convert well I’ve concluded! Was just a bit shocked it went up tenfold! 😲💜

Unlikely to be the NDT. It's natural.

What's your sugar like?

Are you taking any steroids?

Are you drinking enough to make blood?

no steroids. It did coincide with switching to NDT, first Erfa and now Roseways own blend. Re water .. probably not enough but I can’t drink a lot of water doesn’t sit well in me! I don’t believe in the 2 litres a day I’d have no room for food!

It's going to take time for your body to make use of this sudden influx of iron as your red blood cells need to regenerate before they can make use of it and they have a 150+ day life cycle

Hi, I've been on NDT for 3 months and have dry mouth, but I had it before I started NDT. It's actually starting to get a bit better.🤞 I found rinsing and gargling with salt water a few times a day really helped and the pain went away.
