Accessing Blood test results.

Hello folks.I would like to know how hard should it be to access your own blood results.

The reason I ask is that I can only find out from my doctor or a basic result from the receptionist.

I'm in Scotland so know that access via the NHS app is not possible.

I thought I'd ask about having them printed out and I'd collect.

However the receptionist told me that I had to fill out an access form and then it would be 1-2months.. Plus that's for every request and not a one time application.

This doesn't sound right to me, so I'd be very grateful if someone here would enlighten me please?

I agree, this is nonsense just for a single once off set of test results. I know things are different across the four nations, but I'm sure that can't be right no matter where in the UK you are.

Phone the Practice Manager, point out you have a legal right to your records, and will do a SAR if necessary. Your GP and you are supposed to work together for your health, and how can you do this if you do not know the results? The SAR will mean more work for the surgery than just printing your results and handing them to you!

Getting your FULL file can mean a SAR, as they have to go through it and see if anything could upset you. Simple blood results are just hitting a computer key! You could also try saying you would like an appointment with the GP to tell you the results but that would take an appointment from someone else, so you are trying to help them. Good luck!

I am in Scotland too. I was given a SARS request form to fill in when I asked for copies of any thyroid blood tests on file. This took 7 weeks before I could pick up. I had to do another request for another 2 blood tests done for hormones at a later date, and was assured these 2 results, done at the same time from same blood draw , I would get much quicker. I think they said it would likely be a couple of weeks. It took 5 weeks to provide this1 sheet of paper, and before they released them they wanted , in writing, the reason for requesting. I was asked if it was for a lawyer. They seemed to think this was possibly why I had asked for them. I had to sign for them and provide photo id.
