Hi I'm sure this has been asked before, but I have just rung my doctor's surgery to ask for a copy of my blood test results and I was told that she (the receptionist ) would have to get the doctor's permission. She also wanted to know why I wanted them. I said they were for my own personal records. Was she right to tell me this?

Copy of blood test results
Yes they do usually ask for GPs ok before handing them over.
Some Receptionists think they rule the roost. We are entitled to our blood test results for our own records but some surgeries may ask for payment.
It's really none of her business what you want the copies for. She may want to check the doctor has seen them and commented upon them on your records.
Tell GP next time that you want to have copies so it the Receptionist is aware of this.
Thanks for your reply. I am trying to ring the surgery to hear their decision and no one is answering the phone. What fun!
Just spoke to a really polite and helpful receptionist and have got my results.
What a cheek. I now get my tests done privately and i withhold them from nhs gp. If she wants to reimburse me, i may consider giving her a copy...or not
Hi I posted my results in a new question and you replied to me there. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I really do appreciate it.
