Can I take my Levo &T3 at night with Progesterone?

HotelHurricaine profile image

Hi All,

I’ve just had my HRT prescription changed - more estrogen and separate progesterone pills to be taken at night (have been on combined patch for 3yrs).

I feel much better when I take Levo at night - do we know if progesterone interferes with Levo?

Gynaecologist recommended progesterone at night because it helps with sleep (I don’t have any trouble sleeping) but maybe this can be moved to morning?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom here 🙏

It’s always suggested to leave a gap between thyroid medication and other medications… could you at least leave an hour between the them? However, I do know several people who take thyroid medication at the same time as HRT, without any adverse effects.

I would retest thyroid levels 6-8 weeks after changing HRT/ timings. Many members report needing slightly more thyroid medication when on HRT, but conversely I have actually needed less.

Thank you  Buddy195 I will have a go and test in 6-8weeks.

I added T3 at the same time as increasing estrogen (in Feb ) and have definitely felt much worse - if only I'd thought to do one at a time. 2 separate doctors, one GP and one private endo, and I didn't think to discuss.

I will change / increase HRT now and not change T3 until after testing in 6-8 weeks.

It's a juggling act, isnt it?!

Definitely a juggling act … and from my own mistakes, I now only make one change at once as it’s so hard to work out what is effective otherwise!

You can halve the progesterone dose and use it vaginally

Ive been prescribed 2 pills a night - I'm presuming these can't be used vaginally?!

Pills? I'm assuming its Utrogestan which is the micronized progesterone gel capsules, so yes you could just use one a night

HotelHurricaine,

Yes, they are hormones so can be taken together. I used to take my thyroid meds (Levo & T3) and Utrogestan together in the morning for several years.

I have since moved progesterone to bedtime as it makes me sleep better.
