Interpreting cholesterol panel is hard. I still have no idea what number of a particular part of the panel is pertinent to starting treatment?

Well a doctor would say that, wouldn't he! He wants to keep peddling his statins.

But he's wrong. Low cholesterol puts you in far more danger of a heart attack than high cholesterol. Cholesterol protects you from a heart attack. When arteries are damage by inflammation, the cholesterol forms like a band aid over the wound so that it can heal. Once it is healed the cholesterol is absorbed into the cell walls - whiich are made of cholesterol anyway.

Never ceases to amaze me that doctors don't understand that the body needs cholesterol, it is made of cholesterol. The cell walls are made of it, the brain is largely made up of it, sex hormones are made of it. Remove the cholesterol and not only do you remove that protection from heart attacks but you also remove the body's capacity to repair and regenerate itself. Cholesterol is not the threat or the danger that we have been lead to believe. It's necessary and beneficial.

cholesterol of what blooming importance? Basically many medics and pharmacists don’t actually have strong views on this. Nowadays you can sense their doubts. Still, gaslighting about cholesterol is alive and well. ‘Low’ cholesterol is, I would say unusual and probably had even less attention than the issue of high cholesterol.

Frankly it probably needs some up to date research. The old research has been torn to bits by some well known medics.

My cardiologist is insisting on them and virtually using them to make me feel I can’t have the heart procedure she is recommending - which I also find I disagree with anyway! I was just reading research this very morning which says “statins have no prognostic value” for my particular heart condition. Neither do beta blockers which could in fact be dangerous. Both have been prescribed by my cardiologist. Whose name is the first on the list of researchers? My very own cardiologist.

I am prescribed all sorts of things for my heart which by the way is fine. I just cross of the three heart related items off my prescription. I am still here my heart is good and my GP thinks that I am taking them. I am happy and he is happy.

I have managed 25 years+ without them. But my heart unfortunately is not fine.
