Low results there.

So are you still taking those statins you were prescribed before being diagnosed with hypothyroidism?

Yea unfortunately I've got a review at Drs but cannot get in till September

There’s a good chance you never actually needed the statins. Doctors used to know that untreated hypothyroidism raised cholesterol levels but sadly, medical training isn’t what it was.

True even the nurse said it was all about money with statins so are my levels to low?

I’m no expert on cholesterol—but those results seem low to me.

Ok thanks thought lower was better lol

I’m sure that’s what the doctor will say. But I’m not convinced. Have you heard of Malcolm Kendrick and the Great Cholesterol Con?

No but I will follow that up thanks .

The current and ongoing initiative in primary care is put as many patients on Statins as possible - I’m told that there is even a view that all patients could benefit from these insidious drugs irrespective of cholesterol levels.

Sounds like another dirty deal with Big Pharma to me - but I shall desist from further comment. Alas, there is no medication yet for acute cynicism. 😉

Looking at previous posts….not long had dose increase in Levo to 75mcg

So next step is to get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing 2-3 months after any dose change or brand change in Levo

Test early morning, ideally before 9am, only drinking water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

My partner and I signed up for Our Future Health also. I take levothyroxine plus T3 medications. Prior to being optimally medicated my cholesterol got to 6.8 even though I’ve been a healthy eater for many years. I was prescribed T3 medication alongside T4 levothyroxine as I’m a very poor converter of T4 to T3. Within 6 weeks of starting T3 medication my cholesterol dropped from 6.8 to 4.9. My GP couldn’t believe the positive effects on my cholesterol. There have been other positive effects also. I’m now symptom free. So, getting your thyroid levels optimal does help cholesterol levels. The Furture Health test for me last week was 5.2. My partners was 6.4 though. Which needs some work! Yours does seem very low. I would speak with your GP about this. Maybe you never needed statins in the first place. What you needed and need is optimal thyroid levels.

Your HDL is too low you could do with a daily nut intake I eat nuts and my good cholesterol is good.

personally I am not so sure finger tip tests are accurate, I’ve heard that from a few reliable sources

Well, your results seem low to me although ideally you would want your triglycerides to be below 2.3 according to this link

heartuk.org.uk/cholesterol/...

When I had Graves and my TSH was off the scale low I had the lowest ever cholesterol levels. Now I no longer have Graves and my TSH has increased - my cholesterol has too.

I tried statins many years ago and after a week I could barely walk because of muscle pain which was a disaster for me - plus I felt really depressed so I stopped them. Now I just say I don’t want to take them.

Your triglycerides should be lower than your hdl in any case. Also, low cholesterol can cause strokes. Funny how doctors never tell you these things.

Could you come off statins?
