About to start IV Methylprednisone 500mg

Finally, after 9 months, they have diagnosed me with TED, after discounting Myasthenia Gravis, amongst many other things. I am Euthyroid, so my TSH, T4, T3 are in normal range, though my Thyroid Receptor Antibody blood test came back positive (though not that high 2.6). My MRI also implied TED.

About to start a 12 week course of 500mg of IV Methylprednisone in hospital once a week. I wondered if anyone had any tips of do's and dont's. They will monitor for four weeks, and not give any other immune suppressants for the time being.

Avoid sugar. I had high dose IV methylprednisolone when I had chemo and it bumped my blood sugar up to 200-300 (my usual blood sugar is in the 70’s). Not treated other than carefully avoiding sugar in my diet.

Hello Agh :

With a positive over ranges Thyroid Receptor antibody reading - have you actually been diagnosed as having Graves Disease and started treatment with an Anti Thyroid drug ?

Graves is an Auto Immune Disease which generally only seems to get diagnosed when the thyroid and / or eyes are attacked by one's own immune system.

I realise I'm late to the post, and just thought I'd offer you a link to Elaine Moore whose books and website I found to be the most well rounded of all I researched -

I do hope the treatment you are receiving at Moorfields has been of some help -

Back in my early 40's my eyes ' blew up ' and my optician put me is a taxi to Moorfield in City Road where I ended up having emergency laser treatment in both eyes - no blood tests were run - and roughly 15 years later I was diagnosed Graves Disease in 2004.
