Kidney blood test

Hi all

I 39, workout 3 times a week, don’t smoke or drink alcohol and I had a SCAD heart attack 2 weeks ago. Completely shocked but I’m being positive.

I’m now on dissolvable aspirin and Ramipril. I take the aspirin at lunch and Ramipril at night so well away from my T3 and T4 which I take first thing in the morning.

I have to have a kidney and maybe liver blood test tomorrow at 9.15am. Does anyone know if I have to fast for that test?

Thanks

Lindsay

Sorry to hear about your heart attack, what a shock. No idea about your blood test requirements. Google it? Hope things improve for you

What a shock for you LindsayF. Hope you are receiving good care & have a full recovery.

I would ask your local pharmacist/GP about fasting before tests, as I know from experience different hospitals have different advice.

It is a good idea to stop taking biotin for a few days before getting any blood testing done. Reasons for this are given in these links :

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu......

Note the above link is old, but I think that even more blood tests have been found to be affected by biotin since the thread was written.

For info on preparation for the blood tests you are getting done, see these links :

Personally I fast for 10 - 12 hours, drinking only water during those hours, for every test I ever get done. This is on the basis that the greater the consistency between tests the better I can compare results. There are no worries about whether or not my diet is affecting results.

I completely agree about fasting. If achievable, just do it.

Why not avoid even minor changes due to having fasted one time but not the next.

While we know of many tests which actually have to be done fasting, I do question the evidence for other tests. If there were a big difference, that would likely have been picked up but lesser effects might not be so readily noticed. And there must be a point at which they assess the impact as being low enough not to be important - but that does not mean it has no impact at all.

Would you also take your thyroid meds after the test if it’s not for thyroid testing?

I always follow the recommended fasting and thyroid meds to be taken after when testing thyroid.

To be honest, I don't know.

But that is partly because I take mine at bed-time so a morning (or later) blood draw doesn't really look like it is close enough to matter.

Holding biotin before any blood test sounds like a good move.

Mayo Clinic has a write up on SCAD. mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

Interesting the first risk factor is being female.
