11yo daughters latest results

Hello All,

Here are my daughters latest results. She has been off any B12/folate for 5 weeks but has been taking iron. Her medical history is low platelets but she obviously has hashimotos. Really low FT4 but high FT3 (body flogging itself?), very bizarre. Symptoms: tiredness, lack of stamina, breathlessness at times, insomnia at times etc.

I can see her folate and D are also very low.

Thoughts? Thank you.

Very difficult to read those numbers. When enlarged they get very blurry.

Yes, the antibodies are saying she has Hashi's.

This is what tends to happen when the thyroid is failing. No, the body is not 'flogging' itself. The thyroid makes more T3 than T4 to keep you going. BUT, could be the result of a recent Hashi's 'hyper' swing.

Thank you. She always tends to have high in range FT3 so this isn’t unusual. A few months back all her numbers were massively high which looked like a hyper swing but this seems to be a more “normal” ie consistent profile for her. It’s just she is so symptomatic! I think she also needs B12 addressing! Unfortunately as she is a minor, my please are going on deaf ears!

So, for how long has she been testing her thyroid?

Did her doctor order these tests or are they private? Doctors won't always accept private test results.

And they only tend to look at the TSH. So, as hers is well in-range, they're not going to take much notice.

We have been testing her thyroid sporadically privately for the last few years due to significant family history and her own health issues. The GP has also tested it a few times with very similar results.

Trouble is, they're incapable of joining up the dots. But, keep testing, you never know when things will change.

Why has she stopped B12 and B complex

Both are too low, as is vitamin D and ferritin

Has she had coeliac blood test

We stopped multivitamin because I believe it has been masking a “true” picture of her B12 levels because once you’re on it, it skews the data. It’s only been 5 weeks but we have a paediatric haematology appointment next week so I wanted to go in with my own data and then they’ll also repeat bloods including FBC on the day I am sure. She has been tested twice for coeliac but negative. We have also done food allergy/intolerance testing and significant issues with egg and dairy which we haven’t yet removed.

It takes 4-6 months for B12 levels to drop to a base level if been supplementing

Multivitamins never recommended for anyone with Hashimoto’s. Most multivitamins contain iodine best avoided
