Hypothyroid & bone/liver bloods

Does being hypo affect your liver and bones blood work? If so, how? (High or low?)

I am noticing that when I take thyroid medication it makes some bone/liver bloods abnormal (see below)

Is that indicative of being over medicated?

When I stop the medication my TSH sky rockets but my other levels normalise- curious to hear any thoughts on why this is please.

Thanks!

Bone profile:

Alkaline Phosphatase ALP:

26 (30-130) low

Phosphate:

0.77 (0.80-1.40) low

Liver function:

Alkaline Phosphatase ALP:

26 (30-130) low

AST often elevated off of thyroid medication 39 (10-35)

Really interested to hear what the link to thyroid function is w these results

NAFLD is linked to hypothyroidism and I read it's now called Hypothyroidism-induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or HIN for short when thyroid is involved.I aquired fatty liver after thyroid issues started also gallstones for fun of it too.

Routine bloods done by endo picked up raised ALT'S so ultrasound performed and fatty liver and gallstones found. Shocked as vlc, low fat, low carb diet as we do when thyroid makes us overweight for no sodding reason!

I've worked hard with diet ( actually increased calories, protein and carbs), exercise and limiting alcohol and it looks like I've reversed it but only a scan or ultrasound would confirm that I think ( I do think taking berberine helped).

I also have low inorganic phosphate but don't know if connected to thyroid issues 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for your reply, corr that sounds so awful!! I’m glad you’re doing a bit better now.

Are ALT and AST the same thing in liver profile? 🤔

What really strikes me after reading your comment is that I’ve never ever struggled w weight gain…if anything I have always been on the low end of normal and struggle not to be underweight.

I’m also hesistant to take anything like berberine as o think this lowers blood sugar? My blood sugar is on the low side and randomly tanks…especially on thyroid meds for some reason. 🤔

I wondered if the low bone profile bloods could be linked to being over medicated?

Surely can’t be good for it to be below range

AST's and ALT's different. I have had raised AST's but not all the time.I have basically have got metabolism syndrome.

Larger waist compared to body, likely I have/had insulin resistance, bp was a bit raised, all cholesterols were high or low, couldn't lose weight for love nor money. I think I've gone just over a year of normal bloods now.

I'm a bit complex!

Someone more knowledgeable will hopefully explain things to us.

I’m so glad you’ve got your bloods back to normal! Sounds like you’re making good progress!

Yes we sound v different for sure. Interesting you mention insulin resistance because I was actually diagnosed PCOS a few years back but have absolutely zero signs on IR. I have always had a v small waist and next to no tummy fat which I’ve always thought was weird tbh considering I’m quite a sedentary person. I’ve also never had a period tho so my hormone issues are long standing since my teens.

It so interesting how hormone issues differ so much person to person! 🤔

Have you had your endo appointment yet?

Not yet but I anticipate they’ll be as useless as everyone else I’ve seen so far 😭

I think that Liver Function test results can be affected by hypothyroidism. That is what I have found and I've read others have too.
