2 years Post Thyroidectomy. I am having liver problems now. I have hi alkaline phosphatase of 234, the range is 39 to 117. When I had these labs done I had not taken my NP thyroid 75 mg for 24 hours. Would this have affected my alkaline phosphatase? my doctor is a GP and he does not seem to understand anything about the thyroid and its effects on the liver enzymes. I only know from what I have read online that there is an effect on the liver from the thyroid function. Any information would be helpful. Every time I'm feeling better, something else comes up to scare me and I feel it relates to my thyroid but none of the doctors will make that connection at all. I don't want you to keep ingesting different chemicals to test my insides and make my liver worse with all this stuff they want to put in me to do the tests. I have lost all trust in the physicians. I am 73 now and had very good health until I had hyperthyroid from graves disease which came upon me after receiving high doses of levaquin for pneumonia. I have never been well since. the more doctors I go to the more things they say are wrong with me, oh no I have been feeling much better and feel I have reached a good thyroid hormone level at 1 and 1/4 grain of NP thyroid. Thank you for any input on this new development of high alkaline phosphatase in my liver? Thank you so much.

Thyroid homone levels and liver, high alkaline phosphatase
Hi I had exactly the same just before my gallbladder was removed, it could be that. Do you ever have any pain in your gallbladder? You could have a partial blockage of the bile duct.
These two need an ultra sound first just to see if anything else is happening first.
You could try taking a natural liver tonic which would aid your liver anyway.
I am taking Milk thistle complex. I also had my thyroid levels checked at the same time, it had lowered because I didn't take NP Thyroid for 24 hrs, which I found out was a mistake...should have been 8 hrs. ALP went up from 148 to 234 (39 117)! I don't have any pain.
I can't find any Endo or GP has anything above TSH knowledge.
Thank you for that input, I'll keep it in mind.
I took milk thistle for 2 weeks to support my liver and when tested shortly after that, (TSH/T3/4) my TSH had jumped to 10. The doctor felt the milk thistle did such a great job of energizing my liver that it processed the thyroid meds too fast!
how much milk thistle?
Only 200 mg per day but it sure had an effect. Dandelion tea has a mild cleansing effect on the liver but do not use it if you take these other medication, see list at this link: emedicinehealth.com/drug-da...
I should have been more helpful earlier but I was called for. Take Milk Thistle for the liver also I take Organic Tumeric capsules everyday. A glass of hot milk. Grapefruit, Apples, Walnuts, Beetroot, Garlic all help the liver. Try to stay away from alcoholic drinks and anything with ice in it i.e. drinks directly from the fridge stops the liver working for a few seconds which doesn't help it. Very fatty foods like chips or crisps too, just for a while until it settles down. Good Luck
I'm on track with those dietary suggestions. I thought it might relate to my 24 hr. Fast and without NP. I read about thyroid and liver function, especially ALP.
Thanks.
I have to make a $50 co-pays for any specialist, so I can go broke trying to find an Endo. They all say they do thyroid, but when you have the appointment, they don't know anything but diabetes! So discouraging.
Yes it's a great pity that the very people that are supposed to help us either cannot or don't bother.
