I just had my selenium results back today. 1.27 Umo/L ref ( 0.75-1.46)
Was advised to get selenium tested as recent tpo antibodys were raised .
Not sure now if I actually need selenium with this result ? GP advised selenium would help but I'm guessing depending on results which seem to be in range.

Please be mindful if choosing to supplement selenium further; as doses of above 400ug per day have been shown to be toxic.
In the past, I have supplemented with 200ug when diagnosed with active Thyroid Eye Disease (as studies have shown it can help mild/ moderate cases if taken for 6 months). I then reduced to 100ug. Selenium supplementation did reduce my antibody levels (however, they still remain over range).
As Brazils can contain 50-90ug selenium each (depending on selenium content of soil where grown) it’s not advisable to take a selenium supplement AND eat a couple of Brazils a day.
Ok thank you. I believe my GP must have been looking at a way to lower my antibodys with suggesting selenium ? My tpo antibodys was 133.9 imo/L range <60Not sure if she thought I must be deficient In selenium because of this ?
I haven't seen the GP yet since my antibodys test but as recently discussed in a different post this indicates hashimotos? All new to me. Doesn't it mean my immune system isn't to good tho with raised antibodys? Can I ask what thyroid meds you take ? I'm working on my vitamin levels especially vitamin d and just started taking the three arrows iron supplement that was suggested on a different post. Starting to add in gluten free foods
The vast majority of people with an under-active thyroid condition do well on Levothyroxine, when on an optimal dose. This treatment is generally only offered with 2 tests showing elevated TSH. Do share any thyroid blood tests with us going forward, so members can offer better advice.
A gluten free trial is definitely worth considering to see if this helps you. Many members choose to have a coeliac test whilst still eating gluten prior to eliminating it FULLY for a couple of months. I’m not coeliac but am certainly gluten intolerant (like many other forum members).
Hi yes sorry I did mean what thyroid meds you take personally yourself. I have posted on here recently with thyroid panel. I've been diagnosed hypothyroid a year ago and only recently discovered raised tpo antibodys. Oct last year

Think I've been on 75 mg levothyroxine for the last 6 months .
Are there any physical symptoms of being gluten intolerant ? I recently had a food sensitivity test done with food intolerance uk. Not sure how accurate it is . It came up saying I have a moderate intolerance to gluten.
Recently had my hormones tested
Fsh. Prolactin. Shbg. Serum Lh. Serum lipids. Serum oestradiol. Serum progesterone. Is this something I would need to make a new post about or can anyone interpret my results on here if I put them down ?
For me, GF diet eliminated bloating, gastritis symptoms and improved my overall health. It’s definitely worth a GF trial to see if it helps… but you need to 100% eliminate gluten for 2-3 months & then evaluate your symptoms
I don't really have bloating as such or any gastric symptoms. Even if you don't have symptoms can it help with hashimotos ? I just feel quite fatigued lately and not much energy. I'm trying to raise my ferritin as quite low. B12 is improving. I'm going to give it a go anyway see if it helps in any way. About my hormone tests I posted shall I put that on a different post ?
Your result is 73% through the range. I have no info on what would be considered to be an optimal selenium result. But just on the basis of logic I would assume a result in the top half of the range, but not right at the top of the range would be a good level to have.
Others may disagree.
It's worth knowing what the symptoms of deficiency and toxicity are which may help you to make a decision about supplementation.
Thank you for your reply. Yes it seems like a good level so I won't take any. It's just my doctor suggested it as soon as my tpo antibodys came back raised
I agree with the others, your selenium is good. Doubtful that you need anymore. I've never heard of selenium reducing antibodies, anyway. Besides, why would you want to reduce them? The have a job to do and they do it.
Yes, high antibodies are a sign that there's a problem with your immune system, but getting rid of the antibodies won't get rid of the problem. They are just a sign, not the problem itself.
