Hello again,

Recent Selenium test results attached.

Would you say I need to supplement selenium with this result?

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't look like you need to supplement. Doing so would only take you over range.

Thank you GlowCoach - just wanted to check its not meant to be top of range! 🙏

Its 73% of range so good.

You need to be careful not to go above range with selenium. Studies have shown that those supplementing high doses (400ug daily) may have toxic levels. As such, it’s recommended to take no more than 100ug daily as a supplement (or 200ug if you have active Thyroid Eye Disease) or eat 1-2 Brazil nuts (as each nut may contain 50-90ug selenium dependent upon soil type).

Thanks Buddy195 I don't supplement at all.

So I will continue not to do so. I do eat a lot of brazil nuts.

As I'm hoping to improve T3 conversion, I was kind of hoping there would be low selenium levels 😂 that I could improve on!

Have found low iron and low folate though, so hoping supplementing these might help.

Just be careful not to overdo it on the Brazils HotelHurricane. I’d only have a couple per day.

I managed to raise my folate using Thorne Basic B.  humanbean has useful links to improving iron levels, so I would check out her posts.

Thank you I will watch my brazil nut consumption!

I've taken advice from humanbean earlier this week and am now on recommended B Complex and ferrous fumerate.

What an amazing place this forum is!

Hi Buddy

It’s time I tested selenium as I’ve been supplementing again. Went right off Brazil nuts!

Would you say the medichecks one is the one to do or are there other recommendations? I think I had a conversation with someone else earlier in the year on type of test (serum v something else I think) but can’t remember who or what they said

As selenium tests can be quite expensive, most members don’t routinely test. If you think you’ve had a few too many nuts or supplemented more than 100ug per day, I would simply stop supplementing. Studies have shown that levels drop after 3-4 months of supplementation via food or tablet. I would have a few months off eating Brazils & then ensure I had no more than 1-2 per day.

Thanks Buddy but would really like to test because despite supplementing selenium on and off and eating Brazils I’ve never tested so have no idea where I’m at. Likelihood is that levels are ok but who knows, could be high could be low

What’s the best test please?

I know several members have successfully used the Medichecks one for Selenium
