Advice for blood test results

Hi all,

I would really appreciate some help with my latest blood test results.

I have gradually reduced my meds over time, from 150/125 mcg Levothyroxine and 20 mcg liothyronine, to 75 mcg Levothyroxine and 10 mcg liothyronine.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s back in 2013, but my TPO has been within range for many years.

I did not think it was possible to “recover” from Hashimoto’s, so I am a bit confused, and feel over medicated. I have tried to go completely off meds a couple of times and initially feel great for 4-5 days until I crash.

I keep taking my supplements and have recently started taking kelp.

Here are my latest test results (taken more than 24 hours after meds):

THS: 0.01 (0.2-4.0)

T4: 15.8 (11.0-23.0)

T3: 4.9 (3.5-6.5)

Why?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s back in 2013, but my TPO has been within range for many years.

It isn't. And antibodies going back into range doesn't mean you have. Even if they disappeared completely you would still have Hashi's. It's more likely to mean that your thyroid is now completely destroyed so there is nothing left to attack. Therefore the antbodies don't have any cleaning up to do, so they have reduced.

I have tried to go completely off meds a couple of times and initially feel great for 4-5 days until I crash.

Yup. That's the way it works.

I keep taking my supplements and have recently started taking kelp.

Kelp is absolutely the wrong thing to take. It won't do you any good and could make things a lot worse. If you're now taking 75 mcg Levothyroxine and 10 mcg liothyronine you are already getting about 50 mcg iodine from that, plus what you get from food. So I doubt you need extra - especially as you now need less because your thyroid is no-longer making hormone.

So, those labs are inaccurate. The gap between the last dose and the blood draw should be 24 hours for levo and 8-12 hours for T3.

hello , I would be very cautious about stopping meds, and stopping and starting, the body's balance is very delicate. Also caution taking iodine/kelp, high iodine exacerbates Hashimoto. Do you have an Endocrinologist to discuss with ? I read the books of Izabella Wentz, which are very comprehensive, but I, myself, find it very difficult to manage and understand just what and how thyroid and thyroid meds affect so many body functions. I also look at Sten Ekberg on YOutube to explain the interactions and effects of thyroid imbalance. It seems it is possible to rebalance Hashimoto. Good luck!
