Magnesium Supplements

Hi Everyone

Does anyone on here take magnesium supplements? I have tried several different triple magnesium complex supplements but I find that the tablets/capsules are enormous and I have great difficulty swallowing them. Can anyone recommend magnesium supplements where the tablets/capsules are smaller?

Any recommendations for tablets/capsules that aren’t massive greatly received.

hi there, I find they are all rather large. I don’t know if you can get smaller ones. I did break some tablet ones in half.

Many thanks for your reply, all the ones I have tried so far have been capsules, I’ll have to have a look out for tablets instead and try breaking them in half, see if that’s any easier.

I take magnesium glycinate, I recently had the "pleasure" of spending the day in A&E due to asthma and I saw they'd tested my magnesium, which was in range but at the lower end. I agree the capsules are pretty big, maybe empty out the powder and mix it with food or a drink.

Many thanks for your reply, I’m going to try emptying the capsules out as you suggest and see how that goes, will definitely be a lot easier than trying to swallow them.

The capsules are very easy to swallow. Not large at all. Be aware that if you suffer from any gastric problems, these can be exacerbated by consuming the powder without the capsule

you can crush the large tablets up into powder and swallow with water

Or empty capsules into a glass of water

I buy magnesium citrate in powder form and put it into orange juice. I find the taste is so awful I can't swallow it any other way. But I can cope with it far better than the huge horse pills that magnesium is so often sold as. I choke on those big pills.

You can buy magnesium citrate powder in varying quantities. As an example, I bought this :

I don't take magnesium every single day, and I don't take a massive dose. (I take it to reduce cramp and keep constipation at bay.) With my usage a 500g bag has lasted a couple of years. I keep it in an airtight container.

Other forms of magnesium can be bought in powder form

Also you can put Epsom salts into your bath and soak up the magnesium that way instead of orally

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I am unable to have baths due to mobility problems getting in and out of a bath so I use a shower.

I use Healthspan Elite Magnesium Plus. The tablets aren't small, but you can buy a pill cutter if you want to go that route.

Smallest capsules I’ve found are mag taurate from Nutri nature on Amazon and mag citrate from Purolabs. Both made in UK.

I have a tip for taking capsules which has helped me a lot . Put the capsule in your mouth with a good swig of water but keep your head forward, best if you are standing and looking at your feet then swallow. The capsule floats to the back of your mouth and goes down really easily.

l can’t take magnesium tablets as they upset my stomach. I use BetterYou magnesium spray on my skin. You can purchase this EBay or Amazon. You can also use Epsom Salts in your bath or foot soak.
