have had graves for over 10 yrs . Had RAI only wish I had never had this this treatment . On Levo 100mcgs and 75mcgs alternative days . My results have been normal . Have even been able to try T3 to no avail . My problem is constant fatigue have to push myself in the morning as so so tired . Although I exercise daily I struggle to loose weight .

my other bug bear is a nose that runs like a tap more so am .

think I read somewhere the coating they use in levothyroxine can cause runny nose.

last question would dearly love to try natural thyroxine but not sure if it’s safe to buy online . Anybody know where I can get it ??

looking forward to your replies

Annie

I have this, mine worsens on exercise, its very annoying, I think its called vasomotor rhinitis, but runny noses can have many causes from allergies, sinus trouble to nasal polyps. I get a nose spray from my GP that dries it up. I tried all the otc ones but they didnt help me.

Try dairy free diet for post nasal drip

what are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results

SlowDragon Post nasal drip is mucus at the back of the throat which is not the same as a constant runny nose.

Although I exercise daily I struggle to loose weight .

This could be your problem. Over-exercising - and when one is hypo it doesn't take much to over-do the exercise - can make you more hypo. Besides, I very much doubt your weight-gain is due to lack of exercise, so exercising won't get rid of it. It's probably water-retention and no amount of exercising will get rid of that. Only optimal thyroid hormone levels will get rid of it. 'Normal' is not the same thing as optimal. 'Normal' just means the results are somewhere within the range, but it's important that they are in the right place within the range. And, obvious for you, they're not.

Do you mean NDT, such as Armour or Erfa? That's not just thyroxine - which is T4. It's T4 and T3. We're not allowed to name sources on the open forum, so you would need to write another post, asking people to PM you links to their trusted suppliers. Then, when someone sends you a link, check with one of the admin that it's a reliable source, and not a scam - they know about these things. :)

annie123, 'my other bug bear is a nose that runs like a tap '

Maybe something here will give you a clue as to what's causing it health.clevelandclinic.org/...

'think I read somewhere the coating they use in levothyroxine can cause runny nose.'

UK brands of Levothyroxine do not have a coating, not do they have any colourings. There is a slight possibility that one of the excipients in the brand of levothyroxine you usually get given could be causing it (allergic reaction).

Hi annie

Graves is an autoimmune disease and there is a link between rhinitis and other autoimmune conditions.

I found that when I was on carbimazole , pre RAI, all my other AI conditions (asthma, eczema, rhinitis ) cleared up too. Another nail in the RAI coffin!

Might be worth checking you don’t have nasal polyps, these need treating or they continue to grow. Polyps generally cause a runny nose, and if large enough block your sinuses too.
