Falling asleep troubles getting me down

I’ve come along way but this is getting me down. I cannot sleep before 12, often 1am, Wednesday was after 3am.

I’ve taken sleeping tablets for a few years (low dose Amitriptyline) and gawd that helped massively resulting in a good 7hours sleep from midnight.

I’m titrating NDT Armour and in January started sleeping 8-9hours a night. I feel good for it and I even look better in my face. Armour suits me, T3 was slowly rising nicely but had step back in my last results, likely due to having covid twice December and early January.

I tested adrenals again in January and no change from one year ago, so I know adrenal dysfunction is a factor in this. I’m awake at bedtime. The Dr I see recommends adrenal support supplements and I take these but I know it’s a long road for adrenals to recover.

I had a 1/4grain increase in March and I’ve been experimenting with when to take this to help me sleep earlier. I’ve done 1.5weeks of taking it evening and what’s happened is my sleep has shifted to later, not going off till after 1am and I’m not waking up till 10am! My husband has been off work this week so that’s ok but I can’t manage waking at 10am, I’ve got three autistic kids age 6-13.

Any tips on what to try next? I guess I should shift the 1/4 grain dose to afternoon…

There is a sleep condition called delayed sleep phase disorder (or syndrome) which what you have described sounds a lot like. It isn't linked to being hypo or thyroid treatment.

It used to be that to be prescribed melatonin you had to be referred to a sleep clinic but in my area the guidelines have changed recently and GPs can prescribe melatonin.

Have you tried magnesium? A shot of this ( I use Better You body butter these days) helps me get to sleep. Also, a belt of inulin and Montmorency (sour) cherry juice in hot water is helpful.

This is something else which, although not hypo related, can throw out your circadian rhythm.
