considerationHi
I am on T3 mono and have been for quite a few years now and all I can see is people's iron goes up on T3 mono and Im the opposite and have hardly any iron. I had a FiT test so not bleeding
I keep getting the runs on the iron tablets and stools have only been dark once I take vitamin C in form of rosehips as can tolerate the other C
I had a sub-total Thyroidectomy in my teens so was left with some thyroid of my own and still have some natural T4 circulating in my system as T4 level is always around 5 and has been that since started T3 mono so maybe need iron for that to function properly.
My ferritin has always been on the low side 49 being the highest but recently has plummetted and mid December Ferritin was only 16 the iron stores were also below range,
Im sorry I dont have the iron store results as can not get on patient Access as now need a mobile phone number to sign in and i haven't got a mobile and told no way round that and not buying one just so i can sign in
I have been on Iron glutanate x 2 per day since mid-December my Iron stores have gone back into range but all on the low side and Ferritin moved up one point to 17 nmol, So if it only raises by one point then its going to take forever to raise ferritin? I feel dreadful and do not have much energy but occasionally I get one day I am ok but then the next day I have zero energy again
I was told by one GP I didn't need higher iron/Ferritin as on T3 and didn't need iron to transport it only T3 needed or Thyroid to function normally as bypasses the T4 bit, but dont think they took into concideration I still have a tiny bit of thyroid left. I am wondering if that's always been my problem that I should have had ferritin of 70 plus all this time ?, I am not convinced with what GP said but can only find that T4 needs ferritin around 70 for the thyroid to work properly and can find nothing on T3 needing iron?
I have seen many on T3 mono they have high iron but not seen low ?
I have been referred to a gastro to which I have a tele consultation in mid-April with a Gastric specialist to see if that's why i was losing iron, not that I think a tele call will be much use but hey ho the NHS cutting back
Anyway, my main question is a higher level of ferritin needed when taking T3 for the Thyroid to work properly
All I know is i feel so tired and can sleep a lot at the moment which isn't normal for me
all other vitamins and minerals are at good levels so is just the iron and low cortisol that I have too low
I hope this makes sense, I am a bit brain-fogged at the moment so sorry if it doesn't make sense .
