I stupidly thought I could get ontop of my hashimoto s without thyroxine as I ve never really felt any benefit from taking it.
I had a test the other day and my tsh levels have gone up. Dr says I have to keep taking it. I’m on 100 mcg.
I have not taken it since November will it be ok to take 100mcg straight away ? or do I take 50mg and slowly increase.
I also wondered if I can take 50 in the morning and 50 on an evening? Regularly. Does anyone do this ??I’ve put on weight I think as a result of not taking it Thank you for reading

Probably best to start with 50mcg and increase fairly slowly, e.g. add another 25mcg after four weeks.
Yes, it's fine to take some in the morning and the rest at bedtime. Quite a few people feel better if they split their levothyroxine dose. Many doctors don't believe in this with levothyroxine, but patients know best! If it works for you, that's what counts.
I personally would start at 50mcg thyroid medication per day and increase to 75mcg once well tolerated, then add another 25mcg when settled on the 75mcg. Do ensure you get your levels retested 6-8 weeks after being on a consistent dose. Remember to share your levels with us; we are here to help!
Have you tested key thyroid vitamins recently (ferritin, folate, B12 & vit D)? Having these optimal supports thyroid health.
A year ago your B12 was very low and you were about to get a private blood test to see where your FT3 was at. Did you ever do that?
It can take many months feeling terrible whilst tweaking Levo, vitamins and possibly adding T3. Hang in there and keep coming back here with new blood results.
Why do you want to split your Levo dose? Its best taken on an empty stomach an hour before food or drinks other than water which can make an evening dose difficult.
Many people find taking Levo at bedtime works well for them.
100mcgs might be a shock to your system and make you unwell if you have had a break from it. Suggest starting on 50mcgs then a month later add another 25mcgs, get bloods run after 6-8 weeks on a steady dose then add the next 25mcgs.
What supplements are you taking?
What are your most recent results for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?
I’ve just replied to you. But I’m not sure it was sent 🤦♀️. I will get my recent results together and post them tomorrow. Thank you for your quick and informative response x
Are you sure no change at all- I would say I still a have all my symptoms, but I’m a little more stable . So unfortunately tired almost all of the time, and more so than before the levothyroxine, but consistent, and a bit less ‘erratic’
It could be worth using this as an opportunity to talk to your doctor about some sort of combination therapy, either synthetic t3/t4, or dessicated thyroid, depending on where you live. Many will see only slight improvements with levothyroxine, but feel much better with combination therapy. There is research out there that shows that people using t3 medications feel better, even though their labs are no different than those just on levothyroxine.
