Does anyone get Heart palpitations after eating ? I get them no matter what I eat protein only, prot & carbs or carbs (tested this) … This isn’t new but its becoming more pronounced and I can’t figure out the issues or if it’s hypo related but just seems odd to hit only after eating (morning) is the worse but occurs with every meal.

Heart Palps after eating
Hi Batty1 . I can think of a few things off hand that I can also experience heart palps ( among other unpleasant symptoms) from after eating: histamine, food intolerances, blood sugar fluctuations. Difficult thought to pinpoint which of these cause what symptoms.
Im wondering about my sugar being the issues the problem is the doctors keep telling me my sugar is ok even though I explain these issues I have after eating.
My blood sugar levels seemed fine (e.g. HbA1C within range), however my GP did further testing due to my symptoms after eating. My early morning insulin came back very low and GP suggested I do a glucose tolerance test as a next step. I haven't dared to do it yet as I know how awful it makes me feel if I have too many carbs. I originally realised I was carb intolerant after feeling bad after eating 'white carbs' such as white pasta, white rice and potatoes, and so I would only eat 'brown' carbs, such as GF oats, brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, wholewheat pasta and sweet potatoes. I would also keep the portion of carbs small and ensure I had at least as much protein/fats and lots of veg. But due to the having so many food intolerances, I can now only tolerate GF oats, brown rice, brown rice pasta and sweet pototatoes, and I was still l having what I call 'sugar crashes'. From what I've read and the symptoms, it sounds like it could be reactive hypoglycaemia. I then started experimenting with the order in which I ate my food to see if that helped (e.g all single combinations of protein, carbs, veggies), and it did. The best order seems to be protein, then veggies and the carbs, also I can also mix the carbs with the veggies. I still have to be really careful to only eat a small portion of carbs, as otherwise I still have the 'sugar crashes', which make me feel awful (worst symptoms are migraines and severe exhaustion). I did some research online and found some info on food order for diabetes once I realised that it was working: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl....
EDIT: Forgot to add that I suggested to GP as a next step to wear a Continuous Glucose Monitor for a while, to see if we can track my blood sugar that way.
This reresonates strongly with me. If I overdo the white carbs at one meal I find myself sweating profusely a couple hours later. Also, slight shakes and heart racing. I've recently tested hba1c, and all ok. I also find myself waking middle of the night when my glucose has plummeted and I must eat something (usually an oatcake) or its impossible to sleep. If I minimise the white rice and have plenty of meat and veg mixed in, I'm ok. Part of the problem is likely to be that hypothyroids don't store glycogen in the liver as well as healthy individuals. Its all interconnected
Don’t you find it amazing that many things fall under hypothyroidism but doctors seem to glaze past this fact.
I get a whole range of really nasty systems: heart palps, sweating and then cold, going very pale and feeling like I'm going to pass out, very bad brain fog, severe exhaustion which forces me to lie down and go to sleep instantly for hours, migraines that come on with the brain fog. If I keep to the carbs I tolerate, am careful with eating small portions together with the animal protein I tolerate and eat in this order: protein, veggies, carbs then I seem to be OK.
About waking up in the middle of the night - could this also be to do with your cortisol levels? I highly recommend reading Trudy Scott. Her book is also excellent. everywomanover29.com/blog/w...
Hi Batty, thanks for posting this, I have the same as you, palpitations after eating, worst for me in the evenings and cannot work out what the cause is. It's disturbing isn't it! (I haven't mentioned it to GP in case it's added to the list of evidence for health anxiety)
Its definitely not a fun way to start or end your day by having palpitations from eating … Doctors just make it worse by not addressing the problem … “anxiety,” thats always the throwaway answer from them.
I still have no answer why this happens although I have palpitations terrible when I eat eggs and sausage but I can eat gluten free oatmeal and Im fine … its crazy !
Have a look at this link, Dr. Richard Bogle discusses Vagal atrial fibrillation which comes on after eating. I had this for ages, I suspect part of the trigger was red wine too - richardbogle.com/blog/vagal...
So, just came across this on FB and thought of this thread..... endocrinologyadvisor.com/th...
