Hi just wondered if anyone else gets tachycardia and low BP post eating ( postprandial hypotension) I have had hypothyroidism for 20+ yrs with still many symptoms coming and going over the years. I have recently developed this and was wondering if it’s maybe in some ways Thyroid related ( most things seem to be!!) I also get a sore chest too.
Thanks for any feedback

Dysautonomia.... Dysregulation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. When you eat systems are focused over here... Due to the dysregulation basically the sympathetic system is overreacting to the digestive process.. For lack of a better technical explanation. Very common is people with pots.. Do you have racing heart standing and such? It presents differently..
Mine is waking. I'm fine waking up..sitting...getting up. 10 to 15 minutes later my heart can be going a mile a minute.. Hot flash cold sweat dizzy and crashing fatigue. Was taking hours to recover from. Just the act of waking up and moving around
Very low dose propranolol and xanax have been helping and I'm. Working on getting sex hormones sorted out in perimenopause which is making a difference too
I agree with the above. My symptoms of dysautonomia and POTS started with altered BP and heart rate up to 3 hours after food. I also turned out to have Mast Cell activation syndrome related directly to the food. I checked whether it was any food or specific items.
Thank you Delise Yes My cardiologist said that he thought I had POTS after various heart tests but I didn’t go for the Tilt table test as did not like the sound of that! I get an elevated heart rate standing and a drop in BP and the difference between my resting rate which is usually just 50 to when I stand is marked up to 114 I feel I hav run a marathon! I can’t take a beta blocker because if my slow testing pulse
Have you found survivingantidepressants.org yet? They are a peer support group that supports people stopping psych meds including Xanax. You have to join to see the benzo stuff big they encourage a pseudonym so you can do it confidentially.
I get this problem if I eat a carb-heavy diet. I was heading for type 2 diabetes (I changed direction before I got there though), and have switched to a lower carb, higher fat diet. It is reducing the episodes of tachycardia very well, particularly after meals.
Another factor could be low iron and/or ferritin. That can also cause tachycardia for me.
I'm sure there are other causes that I haven't experienced and/or know nothing about.
Hi Thanks for replying My Iron and Ferritin levels are all fine and the meal does not have to be heavy at all for my heart to race. One slice of toast will do it usually only happens at breakfast. I don’t tend to eat large meals and thankfully weight fine
