As you’ve not had any replies I’m going to stick my neck out and say don’t worry about the time gap.

Obviously if you need to use your inhaler then you need to use your inhaler. The issue with levo is that it seems to be difficult to absorb in your gut, add anything else and it affects it and makes it worse, so you should avoid doing that. However if you’re using your inhaler correctly then it’s going no where near your gut so shouldn’t affect the levo absorption.

Just pointing out I know nothing other than what I’ve gleaned here, this is my interpretation not medical fact.

Further thoughts on the matter: levo’s a storage form, you’re just topping up the levels each day. A one off day where you have your morning coffee too promptly isn’t going to make a huge difference in your levels. Doing it everyday will make a difference and then if you’re going to continue to do so then you’ll likely need to adjust dose to compensate.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

It completely makes sense that the medication goes into the lungs and not the gut so why would there be any absorption issues.

I’m so strict when it comes to my thyroid medication which is why I’m over thinking this. :)

I use my inhaler just after getting up and take my Levo just a few minutes afterwards. I've never been advised to leave a time gap between the two, and have never had any adverse effects.

As Beads has said, it's just absorption from the gut that seems to be a problem. Having said that though, I usually take have my morning tea straight after taking my tablets, without any apparent ill effects. However, some people do notice the difference.

Hi

Thanks for that. I’m so strict when it comes to my thyroid medication because I’ve been so unwell in the past. I always wait at least an hour before I eat or drink after taking it.

I suppose the inhaler medication goes straight into the lungs so it wouldn’t affect the absorption.

My brain overworking this ;)

Actually a lot of your asthma medication ends up on your teeth and tongue lol. I had a really interesting chat with the senior clinical pharmacist at my surgery. Like most asthmatics I used the blue salbutamol inhaler with gases in, he explained how important it was to use a spacer with these, otherwise very little ends up where you need it, in the lungs.

I recently switched to Easy halers that are much more environmentally friendly. As they use a dry powder, rather than an aerosol. So no spacer required.

That’s interesting. I use a spacer for one of my inhalers but another is a mist one and you can’t use a spacer. :)
