Back on thyroid-s thanks to this blog. 180mcg at bedtime as knowledgable NZ medic prescribed 12 yrs ago & said to never change!!! Only problem thus far is peeing up to 3x at night - thought 2 months of M stuf had cleared my system of any excess but no, thrilled it’s liquid not alternate. Everything is calming down (have been experiencing 5+ allergen responses at same time - body has always hated chemicals/ synthetic anything). System less erratic during day than on multi-dose T3. Memory remains substandard 😭.

so furious. Yet happy. The thyroid dance. NDT is trash indeed.

Thank you everyone - long, traumatic 7 years easing off.

Great to hear things are on the up... I struggled with a woolly memory and found luckily (thanks to 🍄) that I needed the right sort of vit B6... pyridoxine blocked my uptake so switched to pyridoxal 5 phosphate and things massively improved... just thought I'd throw that out there as it's a known thing for some.

Also added magnesium threonate which is able to assist the brain... every little helps 🙃

it’s such a minefield - and big reason stable patients should never have things changed without good reason.

I was v scared 18 months ago, figured I had six months max. still paranoid about getting covid as if I do in this state am toast but NDT is a huge step to healing. As is a big payout. And a reprehensible endo doing jail time for attempted manslaughter (I can fantasise)

@eeyore100 that’s so interesting!. Which brands are you taking?

Luckily I'd read an article 🍄 had posted so when my B6 result came back on it's knees, I ditched the Vitablossom B complex (pyridoxine) and switched to Igennus Super B (one a day) but also added extra 50mcg B6 P-5-P Now Foods for a month and there was a very noticeable improvement, I just take the extra once a week now as I feel it if I stop but don't want to overdo B6 as that isn't good either, seem to remember 50mcg was the smallest I could find at the time... I shall try and hunt down a lower dose next time

Magnesium complex I take is... amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09...

Thanks so much for this. Luckily ingennus is what I take on recommendation from the good folks on here. I had a horrible phase of dizziness and I think it’s made a big difference. But I’m finding my memory isn’t as sharp as it used to be. I’m going to get the two things you’ve mentioned here.

Which profile has the mushroom 🍄 pic btw?!

B6 has a DV of 10mg so 2 Igennus would provide that, I'd be inclined to suggest trying the magnesium threonate first... just revisiting why I choose the Now Foods B6 and it may well have been as that also contains magnesium...

🍄 = Helvella 😏

helvella - Vitamers of Vitamin B6

Some time ago, I mentioned that the form in which we take vitamin B6 is important. I think I linked to this paper:

Brilliant thanks both. Any thoughts on supplements coming from Lithuania. Heard they are often made in China…

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to janeroar

We have little idea where the ingredients for most supplements (and medicines) come from.

Seems likely that the ingredients for many supplements and medicines come from China or a few other suppliers - wherever the product appears to be made.

On that basis, I don't think that Lithuania is like to be that much different to most other countries. And finding out whether Lithuania imports ingredients through to finished product might not be easy.

Likely. have a friend whose family domintaed spice market for 400 yrs. now manufacture supplement base mixes too… in that quantity no way it’s quality first.

What did the prescriber say to never change; Thyroid-S or the dosage?

joydot profile image
joydot

said never drop dosage - NDT (pharmacy compounded) diagnosed by specialist who did initial tests. I dont convert much & gland is long gone (trauma birth).

Sunflower64 profile image
Sunflower64 in reply to joydot

But do you take Thyroid-S or compounded NDT?

joydot profile image
joydot in reply to Sunflower64

Now thyroid-s. Compounded only avail in NZ with prescription.

I did not understand how vital that was going to become when we moved. In hindsite I was remarkably blasé about hashis status - had no reason to feel confident in endocrinology field yet did.

Sunflower64 in reply to joydot

And you have had no problems with Thyroid-S? There have been some problems reported with it (some batches working, some being ineffective).

joydot profile image
joydot in reply to Sunflower64

No problems but then I was such a wreck am afraid to say anything. Compared to a month ago I feel like I might survive… have celiac going on. My kidneys were strange for a few days - think they were detoxing t3. Possible adrenals coming back online too.

So glad you've got this sorted. Which batch number is it?

I take half my dose first thing in the morning and the second half dose 12 hours later which is 4 hours before bedtime. Never had problems with having to go during the night.

Is the Thyroid S working for you?

How does Thyroid S compare to the Compounded Thyroid you were on?

joydot profile image
joydot in reply to veryland

I’m fine with them all at once. Carrying 100lbs lymph fluid for 6 yrs is bound to do some damage, I’m impressed that the ndt almost immediately began reducing new spare tyre. I’ll be normal in a few months. S same as compounded far as I can remember.
