Hi

I posted a while ago about the brand of thyroxine I’m on (Accord), just had my blood results. Recently moved doctors. After getting my results doctor has advised if you take thyroxine the NHS will only test TSH now. My old doctors used to do T4 and TSH. I could never get T3 done. On a positive note new doctor did do my B vitamins which I’ve never had done before. Anyway they said they are all normal. I’m feeling terribly achy in my legs and finger’s especially first thing in the morning and can’t lose weight so my BMI is higher than it should be. I am post menopause stopped periods at 52. Now 55. Doctor said that as you get older these things unfortunately occur. I don’t agree I feel a bit hypo. I’ve felt a lot better when my TSH 0.01 My results are below any help from you knowledgable guys would be much appreciated. I currently take 125mg per day.

Serum TSH 3.00 (0.3-5.5)

B12 - 325ng (197.0-771.0)

Ferritin Level - 43ug/l (13-150.0)

Serum Folate - 5.1 if/l. (2.1-26.8)

TSH certainly suggests you are under replaced and you're in need of a decent B complex, ferritin is low have you had a full iron panel?

I had quite a lot of different blood tests. Do you know what it’s called. Thanks

The exact tests which constitute an iron panel vary. (It is also a bit of a USA phrasing! :-) )

Have a look here:

Serum iron - measures the concentration of iron in the blood. The amount of iron within the blood varies throughout the day, and from one day to the next. An blood (serum) iron test is therefore not a useful measure of iron status if it is used on its own unless iron overdose is suspected. Serum iron is therefore often requested in combination with other tests of iron status. Such tests include transferrin saturation, ferritin, TIBC (total iron binding capacity) and UIBC (unbound iron binding capacity).

Definitely a good idea to make sure that you are not iron deficient.

So do you think I should be taking the B vitamins. I was wonderImg if I should go private to get all my thyroid levels done

It is probably not a bad idea. But make sure that it is a reasonably balanced product. And don't feel you have to take a huge dose of everything every day.

Many others have far more experience and understanding of B complex product. I think the Thorne B Basic would be reasonable - but it isn't cheap.

Yes - do get a private test if it is affordable. Ideally get both TPOab and TGab included. Again, others are more aware of options and costs.

Can anyone recommend a good affordable B complex please. Do you think I need to take them. Doctor said my levels were normal. Also can anyone recommend where I could get my thyroid blood test done privately. Thanks

Your results certainly show that you'd benefit from raising your levels Igennus Super B is probably the best affordable one as you could take 1 a day rather than 2

Thank you so much for your help and for everyone else’s comments. I have ordered a thyroid test from monitor my health. Sorry I haven’t replied sooner. Been feeling particularly rotten this week. Don t know which part of me is aching the least 🥲. My face is very puffy today as well so sick of feeling rotten. Since my thyroidectomy I feel like I am on a roller coaster. This new GP I’ve got dosent seem as good as my old one as she was more open to how I was feeling rather than the blood test results. I will post back for advice once I get my results. Many Thanks 🙏
