recurring illnesses

I’ve been trying to get stable on t3/4 combination, still a way to go as last results after increasing to 10 mcg liothyronine in 2 doses were the worst yet, t3 and t4 both at bottom of range, vitamin D draining away again despite supplements.

I’ve increased levothyroxine back up to 75 ( I was advised to drop it when adding in t3).

I’ve been getting a recurring illness several times a month where I get a fever, severe fatigue, sore throat pain under my left rib, loss of appetite which doesn’t respond to painkillers, all since I started t3.

it feels like the start of flu but does t progress into coughing or sneezing. It just fades away after 2-3 days. It’s really debilitating and so frequent it is interfering with work, it sounds so feeble to say I’ve got the same thing repeatedly but I don’t know what it is. Have discussed with gp and awaiting more general blood test. I just wondered if it rang a bell with anyone

Many thanks

Have you trialled a gluten free diet Mag999, as fully eliminating gluten really helped my overall health.

When did you last check ferritin, folate, vit D and vit B12?

Hi, yes good point I do t have much gluten but could eliminate entirely I have poor absorption of vitamins so supplement all of them all the time but levels still fluctuate and my d, ferritin and folate have all dropped despite supplementing which is frustrating. Will try gluten free again. Thanks for reminder !

Definitely worth eliminating gluten fully for 3 months, to see if this benefits you Mag999

Hi Mag99

Have you been making changes to your thyroid hormone doses weeks apart rather than 2-3 months apart?

Can't say for sure that the two are connected as other factors could have been at play (including a recent trial of NDT that caused my thyroid antibodies to shoot up), but in my experience, after I went through a period of perhaps making too many small changes to thyroid doses too quickly, I suffered a long period of feeling like I had the flu despite not having an infection (my doctor ran a slew of tests). My doc at the time had advised me to stop making changes to my thyroid doses as he said that could be the cause (one of the first useful things he ever said to me!), and sure enough, after keeping steady on doses for a few months I felt significantly better despite still being undermedicated.

Mentioning this possibility as I've read others post similar stories on here about feeling ill after repeatedly changing doses too quickly.

If you've gotten Covid recently, Long Covid can also cause persistent feelings of illness to pop up weeks after an initial period of feeling pretty well recovered.

Hope you feel better soon
