New Member - Thank you

Since my first post a couple of weeks ago I have been reading and researching information posted on here. It's been so valuable thank you very much.

So to recap, I have three health issues of concern at the moment. Hypothyroidism which I have had for at least 10 years, borderline diabetic for the last four years and hypertension - newly diagnosed following an A&E admission for abdominal pain and vomiting on 10 December which was a UTI. I had anti sickness tablets and anti biotics prescribed.

I have been monitoring my blood pressure for the past two weeks and although it has come down is still elevated and have a call back on Wednesday 3rd January to discuss.

An ECG showed nothing of concern although I do get jitters at times and occasional palpatations but not all the time.

My NHS blood test taken in hospital showed everything within their normal range except the 'non diabetic hyperglycemia' which has been like this for the past four years.

Also my TSH was down from 4.91 from a Medichecks test on 16 November to 2 a month later. I had increased my Metavive after seeing those results but following the replies and comments and how generally unwell I felt a couple of weeks ago I am reviewing whether to continue with this medication hence reading and researching the last couple of weeks.

I have looked at the list of Endocrinologists and looked at those in my area and I am asking for a referral as I believe there needs to be investigation. It's all very well having been told that there is something not right but I want to know the underlying cause. I have many questions to ask and really hope that I will see someone who is open to the various treatments available and will really listen.

I see that Medichecks have extended their 20% test discount to end of January so I will get another test kit next week and update on here when I have more information or results. Thank you to all who have replied previously. This site has been so valuable and I am very grateful and glad I joined. Happy Healthy New Year to you all.

Happy New Year Musicfrequency,

You are doing the right thing retesting your thyroid levels before considering seeing an endocrinologist, as your appointment can then focus on ‘what next’ steps, plus private hospitals invariably charge more for blood tests.

Keep posting if you need further advice or support 🦋

Thank you so much. It's always reassuring to know we are making good decisions. I don't think all mine have been the best but the key thing is the lesson learned and then we move on. That's great advice Buddy 195 thank you.

borderline diabetic and hypertension

Both could be due to un/under-treated hypo. And 2 is still too high for the TSH.

Hypertension is not a disease. It's a symptom.

Thank you for your reply. The NHS test was done on 10 December in hospital and my Medichecks one was 16 November so my TSH had gone from 4.91 to 2 in only 3 weeks. I had intended to have another test done in January to see what, if any improvement there was even before the A&E episode so I am very interested to see what my next test shows

I also realise Hypertension is not a disease as such and has a cause and that is what I intend to find out. I hope the tests will show more and I'll post the results on here.

Well, you need more tested than just the TSH. TSH doesn't cause any symptoms or affect how you feel. It's just a vague indication of thyroid hormone levels, but once thyroid hormone replacement, it's pretty unreliable.

Yes thank you. I am getting the Advanced Thyroid Test done at Medichecks which is £86 less 20% discount. I'll post those results as soon as I have them.

Taking metavive will lower TSH because it almost certainly contains some T3. It could take weeks for your TSH to increase to where it would be without metavive. That will complicate things when trying to get a sensible dose of thyroid meds from a GP.

Thankyou. That’s an interesting point. I’ve got all my test results from Medichecks and keeping a record. I’m hoping a referral to an endocrinologist won’t take a long time and I’ll check my test results when I’ve got them end of next week.
