Thyroid Madness continued

Well, I won't be multi-dosing again unless it synthetic T3 and T4. I'm at the YMCA and I'm very unhappy with the shape of my body. I gained weight around my middle. I don't think my legs look this bad. Maybe I'm in denial. However,, I would like to add T3 to my NDT if I could. I don't believe I'm going to get the help I need in this area where I live. Because I never have before and I've had to be the master of my own ship. There's so much information out there! I still think I should have listened to Wavy lines a month ago but I was trying to force it and make it all work for me.Going back to the way I used to do it is hurting me. I guess I didn't listen. GreyGoose had good advice. James said only 10 or 15 percent is lost by eating. I over cooked in his words.

With T3 you can eat. NDT is nothing like T3.

I had to cut back. All confused now. Starting over. Was it a waste? I don't think so. Labs? Not til mid Jan.

Just a reminder, if you want to alert a member who has offered advice previously, just put @before their name and then this will turn blue

Easylover. Am really not sure what you mean by with T3 you can eat. Thyroid replacement hormones are not a weight loss programme I'm afraid. If you are expecting that you will be very disappointed.... You will only loose weight when you have all your thyroid hormones, vitamin and minerals in balance and can exercise normally with a nourishing balanced diet. This takes a lot of time. Sorry to say this but there really is no quick fix.... sadly..I do feel for you and hear your frustration but it's the tortoise that wins the race not the hare.

That's why I always suggest keeping a little diary as described before. And making one change at a time and then waiting for several weeks. It took me several years....

I meant that T3 can be taken with food and NDT shouldn't be...I was taking NDT with food in my stomach.

Ahhh I understand now. 😊

Personally I've never taken my thyroid hormones near food - whether levothyroxine (T4) , Liothyronine (T3) or NDT. Food affects uptake and can vary the result so it's best to keep them away. Take on empty tummy leave an hour before eating. Or eat and leave 3 hours before taking your thyroid hormones.

Hope this helps.

What I meant was multi dosing cause a middle and cellulite. Where when I dosed all at once and not too much I looked better. But it was also fairer weather and I walked more. Still trying to figure it out. But yeah like James said sweat! I love to swim. No, I'm not using thyroid medicine for weight loss. I just want to feel good!!!

Yes, warmer weather does make a difference. When weather becomes very cold and stays like that we may need a tiny bit more.

Oh, I didn't know that! Thanks!

So, how much is a little to add in winter

It's only when we have a very long cold spell. Google Mary Shoman. She talks about it. As for how much that's very individual. You need to first get your thyroid hormones settled on an optimum dose.

This is a thyroid forum - of course the first thing we look to is our thyroid levels. But perhaps what I have learned here most importantly is checking and fixing everything else or the thyroid hormones just can’t do what we need them to do.

I discovered recently that low iron symptoms are almost the same as low thyroid symptoms -enough so that I convinced myself I needed more and more NDT. It worked - to a point - I’d get enough energy to get me through whatever I absolutely had to, then would crash, sleep forever and get snippy at those around me. I had to push a little for a full iron panel as ferritin and hemoglobin were still “in range”, though low. Several bright red alerts showed up on the iron panel and related red blood cell results. So - two months to get a hematologist appointment, a week on oral iron which made me ill, then, finally, iron infusions.

I was really dragging while waiting for the infusions, having lowered my NDT back to my “normal” dosing, but I’m starting to see the benefit from the iron infusions (x2 with the second one a week ago). I’ve been told it will take at least a month or more to realize full benefit but I’m already needing to sleep less, have more energy and am enjoying things again.

It taught me to pay better attention to the whole picture, especially diet, supplements I know I need and insisting on getting all the testing done that I need.

Hi EL If you want to loose weight, you need to optimise your NDT. Which code words for - keep taking more until you have some sort of side effect you cant live with. You can eat with NDT and T3/T4 , because you are compensating for the lost NDT by just taking more than you would if you weren't eating. My side effect is a lowgrade nagging head ache, so when I start getting a head ache I slow down. I take 60mg for breakfast, 60 for dinner. Then I drop the dinner once in a while when I'm feeling over cooked.

Exercise - 40-60 min aerobic exercise 5 days a week. There is no point in walking - it does zero, I'm talking running, jogging , aerobics class etc your T-shirt soaked with sweat at the end.

Diet - No eat junk. Sugary foods, lots of carbs ,bread, pasta, white rice, sweetened yogurt, deserts, soft drinks, juices, jumbo milky coffee's etc. Eat lots of - real meat, veggies, eggs, olive oil, animal fats (butter) , potatoes, sweet potato, brown rice, fish, milk, lots of water bla bla .

I've been experimenting with fasting lately, only eat between 4pm and 6pm - I have lost 4kg but am really doing to see how it effects my blood sugar. Pre diabetic.

I weigh my self daily, if I go up/down 500g I think about what I might have done to cause it, remove that or do more etc. Some days I go up a Kg and cant explain - maybe full with poo?

The exercise has a two fold effect - helps you loose weight and tones your body (shape of my body)

Ignore TSH blood tests they are for GP's and Endo's , you will be TSH suppressed - TSH=0.

Be naked in public - I swim once or twice a week for my daily exercise. And there's no hiding my fat gut/arse in the men's change rooms - great motivator
