Naturally high vitamin B12

I have had a few tests over the last few years which include Vitamin B12. I am worried that I may not be transporting it to cells as it is very high fir someone does not take supplements. See photo? Everything I question this the doctor just says we'll that's good isn't it.

Is it? From what I read it may not be good.

I had RAI for my thyroid 8 yrs ago so I take medication for that. And recently trialing T3 with my levothyroxine.

Just some anecdotal "evidence" ...

I read once that Bradley Wiggins (famous British cyclist) would take sufficient B12 before a big race to push his level up to about 8000ng/L. Since the body excretes excess B12 via the kidneys I wonder how long this would last. I'm assuming that he was given multiple injections to get it that high.

...

The reference range for serum B12 in the UK varies from about 200 - 600. It's a shockingly low reference range in my opinion. In Japan, they use a range of about 500 - 1300, and will treat anyone with a level below 500 as being deficient.

...

My own serum B12 has been > 2000 on numerous occasions (I supplement with tablets) and it hasn't done me any harm as far as I can tell.

...

And this paper may be of more interest than anecdotes :

Title : The pathophysiology of elevated vitamin B12 in clinical practice

What are your folate levels

We need all the B vitamins together

Are you taking any vitamin B complex

You may find taking daily vitamin B complex helps balance all the B vitamins

What are your current thyroid results

That's taking 5mcg of liothyronine. I take 100 levothyroxine too. I prescribed 2x10 liothyronine to take a day. I was advised not to take that on start up, so started on 5mg . I've tried 2 x 5 but struggle sleeping through. I'll upload TSH think it's below 1

How long had you need on 100mcg levothyroxine and 5mcg T3 before testing

Was blood test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 smaller doses spread through the day with last 2.5mcg dose 8-12 hours before test

assuming yes…..looks like you need dose increase in Levo to 112.5mcg daily and consider dropping the T3

I would try taking a daily vitamin B complex

Perhaps try Igennus B complex. You could start on just half a tablet daily

I was told to leave 4 hrs between the T3 and blood test he said it would be out of my system after 4 hrs. This is the endo that told me to take 2x 10 liothyronine a day.. jeez that would have been far too much.

I seem to handle 5mg in a morning fine.

I'll take your advice on next test.

Thankyou for reply

Many, many members on levothyroxine plus small doses Ft3 find they need both Ft4 and Ft3 at least 60-70% through range

FT4: 14.1 pmol/l (Range 7.5 - 21)

Ft4 only 48.89% through range
