Shoulder pain and stiffness

in the last few months I have been experiencing a lot of pain in the base of my neck, across my shoulders and in my shoulder joints. I also have really tight muscles and knots in my upper back. Having read previous posts on here and read other information I am wondering if it is all thyroid related.

I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease 20 years ago, had my thyroid irritated. I am on 75mcg Levothyroxine and 10mcg Liothyronine daily.

I am due to see my endocrinologist at the end of December so hopefully will discuss it with her.

I have been having regular massages but nothing is really working. Has anyone else been experiencing these issues?

Hi, I have lots of shoulder and neck pain too. A major cause of my neck getting worse is my food intolerances which are likely associated with my Hashimotos. When I cut out dairy and egg my neck pain improved massively (I went from not being able to lift my head off the pillow or even swallow properly to living pretty much normally within 2 weeks). I still get shoulder pain that goes into my neck when my tsh is too low

Living with this is a nightmare sometimes isn’t it? Sometimes I don’t think there’s enough awareness about thyroid issues and all what it affects. Even some doctors are clueless.

I have had to do a lot of research to find things out and talk to other people who have the same issues.

I’m hoping my endocrinologist will be able to help in some way. I have never had any intolerances to anything up to now but I know things can change.

what are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results

You could be in need of dose increase in levothyroxine or T3

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Are you on strictly gluten free or dairy free diet

I need to have tests as haven’t had any for at least 6 months.

Thanks for the advice.

I am taking magnesium, selenium, zinc, Vit B12 Vit D, evening primrose and omega 3 as recommended by my endocrinologist.

I’m not on any diet at the moment. I haven’t had any reactions or problems with dairy or gluten. Ruled out that by stopping dairy and gluten. Nothing changed.
