New results - help follow up at 5pm!

hello again,

I need the help of you lovely clever people…

following on from last time the Endo did some bloods and I have a follow up today. I’ve managed to see the blood tests and I want your advice…

TSH 0.97 (range 0.35-4.94)

FT4 11.4 (range 9-19)

all results attached.

9am, Fasting

The cortisol is low because it was a suppression test

my FT4 has been low end of range or just under range in last few tests

THS is always lower end of range in same tests

my understanding is that my TSH should be raised if my T4 is down at the bottom of the range and if it’s not we need to look at pituitary, hypothalamus etc - is that correct?

If I have all the hypo symptons and I’m undiagnosed and unmedicated should I be pushing this? Should I be asking for pituitary mri?

I would really appreciate your honest advice because this endocrinologist is likely to say “well it’s in range” and I want to know if that is the right response or if I should be psyching myself up to ask for further investigation ….

TIA

That is correct, yes.

If I have all the hypo symptons and I’m undiagnosed and unmedicated should I be pushing this? Should I be asking for pituitary mri?

Absolutely, yes.

Of course they do. That's their way of covering up their ignorance.

Hi Laundry

Glad  greygoose was on the scene - very knowledgeable - she has given me a lot of intel too. So I would agree, further investigation required. Greygoose has pretty much covered it, but also the results page alludes to high cholesterol without actually giving you the figures.

It is extremely disingenuous to talk in terms of percentages without actually looking at the real numbers. We all know that they have been dropping the thresholds for statins for a very long time. Forty percent can be very different depending on the real numbers and it seems they are trying to obfuscate them. So 40% over range when top of the range is for example 10 is very different than 40% over 1,000. I think they are getting increasing push back from the general populace as we dare to talk amongst ourselves and share knowledge. This seems a direct attempt to muddy the waters and confuse people into submission.

I was literally talking to a neighbour today who couldn’t get the results from her doctor he was ONLY prepared to talk to her in terms of percentages.

This is a very concerning development.

There are still many doctors who do not seem to understand that statins are not good for people who are hypo.

Also, high cholesterol is an indicator of a possible under-active thyroid and if the hypothyroidism is actually treated then frequently, cholesterol levels come back into what is considered a normal range, but that said, I personally would not be encouraged to go onto Statins when their own guidelines advise caution.

Not sure if the topic has been broached yet? I have recently posted on this. 😉👍
