I have just received a email saying I will no longer be getting my b12 injection which I was having every 2 months and will be put on cyanocobalamin 100 micro grams taken daily.
This feels me with dread as I really feel the need of the injection when it’s due why is this being stopped. I suffer from anxiety and stress and this is another thing I need to deal with.
Can I appeal the decision ?

They can't just write to you and inform you. There has to be a medical consultation with you to change treatment. I'd point that out. Secondly at that appointment you ask for the reasons and you can say you want a second opinion. You need to see a specialist really on this. It can be private as well as NHS and out of your area. So I would go on the PA Healthunlock and flag it up. I saw a neurologist a few years back that backed my need for b12 injections. My GP couldn't prescribe until I saw one but they wouldn't start treatment until a specislist saw me. I self administer but my GP Surgery provide the vials and equipment. I need them daily. If you are a member of the PA Society they have a helpline you can ring too.
Hi thanks the text message came through saying they had already sent the prescription to the chemist
This is what the message said
Dear Mr Allen,
You have now had your B12 injection loading doses. As per guidelines we will now be switching you over to the daily cyanocobalamin 100 microgram tablets starting on the day your next injection is due. A prescription has been issued. A blood test will be required in 12 months.
I'd contact them and say you are not happy and would like a proper medical consultation with a doctor. Guidelines are not meant to be used instead of patient assessment consultation! I complained about my GP sending me a text directing me to reduce my thyroid meds as it was not a medical consultation. I did get one and GP changed his mind as a result. Not everyone can maintain their B12 levels on B12 supplements. Especially if you can't absorb it in your tummy. I assume you went onto B12 jabs because you had already tried supplements?
Guidelines below. It says can not has to be..... Or two monthly B12 jabs.
Do you have PA or is your low B12 down to other reasons. If you have PA then all the tablets in the world wont help as you can't absorb them. I would advise joining the Health Unlocked PA forum and asking the members on there for advice.
Pernicious Anaemia, its an autoimmune condition where the body destroys a substance called intrinsic factor which is needed to absorb B12. Which is why its treated with lifelong injections usually, which bypass the digestive system. If you dont produce enough or any intrinsic factor then B12 pills wont do anything.
PA is the most common cause of B12 deficiency but not the only one. Strict vegetarian or vegan diets are often low in B12 as its most commonly found in animal products and malabsorbtion conditions or diseases that affect the gut, like coeliac, can result in low B12. B12 absorbtion often decreases in older people as well.
I was diagnosed - some years ago now - that I have Pernicious Anaemia.
My mother also had this condition and had B12 injections until her GP stopped them and I believe his decision caused mother to develop stomach cancer which caused her early demise.
I do have P.A. but now have monthly B12s and GP was very agreeable to do this. Previously I had an injection every 3 months.
