Does being hypothyroid and asthmatic qualify anyone aged 60 for a Covid jab this winter, does anyone know? Receptionist at my surgery has just told me not. Although they want me to have a flu jab! I can't figure that out at all...
And what do you guys think about having one anyway? I've had three so far...last one over a year ago.

Re having boosters, theres totally opposing views eg between medics and leading researchers. So it's not easy but you should try to assess your individual risks and benefits, if possible.
If too difficult, you could go with gut feel or personal tendencies. For example, do you trust medics or not in other relevant areas eg thyroid?. But it must be your decision only.
That's absolutely how I feel...do they know enough about thyroid to judge? Ghastly that one should be forced to try and make that medical decision but only we can weigh up against our own knowledge of self and make the (hopefully correct) choice.
Being blunt, medics generally don't know much about thyroid according to maybe 90% of posts on here. So that lack of key, relevant knowledge could influence a vax or no-vax decision. Also I'm unaware if vaccine trials included thyroid sufferers or not?
Back to my 1st point, most have little knowledge of alternative research evidence to be able to influence a decision. Myself and my father (40+ yr PhD science researcher) do have plenty. But it would be wrong to try to use that to influence you or anyone else either way, as I've indicated.
If you are on long term steriods for your asthma yes, as you are classed as immunosuppressed.I also have severe asthma and am on long term steriods, I also have hashimotos and they agreed to me having the covid due to that as well.
I just took a letter that I had got from my respiratory specialist, who I am currently under to confirm.
I am 50, having my vaccine at the end of this month
When you say long term steroids do you mean inhaler? Yup, been on those for donkeys...I think my GP would say I need one now (since she definitely requires me to have the flu) and Covid is apparently so much worse but it seems computer (or receptionist) decides in my surgery. Ha!
I just went on the nhs app and booked one, the respiratory specialist told me I should have the covid vaccine and every year I have had the flu jab. Any inhaler or other medication that are corticosteriods for your asthma that are not classed as short term, as you rely on them for long term support. Do you have a red steriod alert card? I am no longer able to get medication prescribed to me thro the gp for my asthma as I need more than what they can give, as I had got to the highest and it still wasn't helping. I am now under a specialist for my treatment
I asked receptionist why. She asked me if I had 'underlying health condition' - with my notes right in front of her on computer) I said yes, asthma and hypothyroidism. She said they don't qualify for Covid but they do for Flu. Gawd. Random
Yep, family members in different area exactly the same as you. Not round by us apparently. Computer says no
Maybe when I go for the flu jab they want me to have the notes THERE will say yes to Covid jab as well. That happened last year. And I refuse to have both together when I can buy a flu shot anywhere. Prefer to let my immune system take one at a time. So that's my cunning plan We'll see if it works
