I’m on the following routine and wondered what I should do with my thyroid medication the day before the test:
First dose: 3am - 125mcg Levo, 5mcg - T3
Second dose: 11am - 2.5mcg T3
I will do the test around 8am ensuring I’ve only had water. So should I NOT take the 11am T3 dose the day before as well as the 3am early morning levo/T3 dose? Or am I supposed to take all my thyroid meds together say 6am the day before?
Also, is it just no vitamins within 24 hours of the thyroid test but 48 hours after biotin and iron?
Thanks for your help x

Hello TiredMummy. Blimey you have your hands full. Our kind of tired and being a Mummy! I know many thyroidies do this and a cuddle to you all... the very idea of having thyroid issues and children to raise fills me with trepidation (for the safety of my children!) Luckily for them, I wasn't diagnosed until they were in their late twenties!
Hope you find this useful - Radd is a very wise thyroidie and I have followed her protocol with some degree of success (in that my GP leaves me alone as my levels when I do a blood test for him fit mostly within his parameters) You may find the marvellous helvella useful, too
I managed to get my head around it mostly and Slowdragon has given me the confidence that I’ve understood correctly! Stupid brain fog! Thank you for your help 🙂
so stop any supplements that biotin 5-7 days before test
Also iron supplements same
If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test
2 days before test …..delay Levothyroxine dose until 7-8am next morning (day before test)
Day of test delay morning Levo until after test
So …if testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal
T3 night before test take T3 at bedtime rather than 3am
thank you Slowdragon that makes sense and I came to similar conclusion late last night and took my Levo at 6am this morning. I will take it at 7am tomorrow and after the blood draw on the following day (test day). I was thinking of taking my last T3 dose at 3pm on the day before the test (8 hours after the first dose at 7am with my Levo) so will taking it at bedtime be better for the test? I wonder if I will feel better doing this generally….
