Hi,

Please what would you suggest are the best Thyroid Supplements to buy?

Especially in helping reverse T4 to T3.

I just started using Thyroid Complex by Hey Nutrition.

The simple answer to your question is that there is no "thyroid support" supplement that is right and if you can return your Hey Nutrition supplement for a refund then do so, if not then just don't take it.

What you have is basically a multi-vitamin which are never recommended here for various reasons, one being that it contains iron which affects absorption of everything else. Something else it contains is iodine which should not be supplemented unless tested first and if necessary supplement under the supervision of an experienced practioner. Iodine solution used to be used to treat hypERthyroidism befor the current radioactive iodine treatment, so it can cause hypOthyroidism or make established hypOthyroidism worse.

Test key nutrients - Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin - and supplement what's necessary at the appropriate dose after you have checked the results with members here. Then don't buy anything else which says "thyroid support", it will most likely contain iodine.

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin at least once year

Many (most?) thyroid patients need to supplement vitamin D, magnesium and vitamin B complex continuously to maintain good vitamin levels

ALWAYS test before starting…..if exceptionally low GP will need to know and prescribe

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Day before test split T3 into 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
