help with blood results

I'm new to HealthUnlocked and am hoping someone would help me with my latest text results, as I'm a lile worried and feeling rather unwell.

I have Hashimoto's and currently on 125 mcg T4 only. My symptoms seem to be getting worse and worse. I have bad fatigue, all over joint pain (keeping me awake at night), tummy problems (SIBO) and vertigo/dizziness. I do have MGUS but not sure that is relevant. My brain is a mess and sometime i feel unable to walk in a straight line, but my joint pain when having a flare up is the worst symptom if, in fact, it's related to my thyroid but the tests for RA came back negative.

I think my T4 is too high along with low TSH, but i can't afford to let my T3 get any lower. I'm hoping that you kind people will help me get myself on track.

Results

TSH - 0.044 (0.27 - 4.2)

T3 - 4.4 (3.1 - 6.8)

T4 - 21.5 (12.22)

Hi warmbreezes, welcome to the forum. :)

You're right, Your FT4 is on the high side. But, not over-range. And, your FT3 is low-ish. You're a poor converter, which is often the case with Hashi's people, but doctors are incapable of recognising that.

Have you had your nutrients tested: vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin? Low vit D will often cause joint pain. And low ferritin will cause terrible fatigue. And all that on top of low T3 will make you feel pretty bad. Making sure your nutrients are optimal could also improve your conversion - although there's no guarantee.

Have you tried a gluten-free diet? Hashi's people are often gluten-sensitive or have Coeliac diseased. We can test for Coeliac, although the results are not 100% reliable, but the only way to know if you are gluten-sensitive is to cut out gluten 100% for about 3 months and see if your symptoms improve.

If nothing helps, then you really will need to procure some T3 to add to your levo. And that can be difficult, so try everything else, first. :)

Hello warmbreezes and welcome,

If you can get the vitamins and ferritin tested as Greygoose suggested, or post any recent results you aready have, that would be really useful in teasing out your symptoms. For example some of your symptoms could be related to B12 deficiency, the dizziness and not being able to keep a straight line in particular. Have you told your doctor about these?

It may take a while but you are definitely in the right place to start figuring out what's happening, and improve your health.

Are you having any treatment for SIBO?

Best wishes.

Thanks. I will follow you advice. I have spoken to my GP about it. Prescribed Paracetamol and I have been referred to the Movement Disorder Clinic, Audiology department and have an appoitment at the end of August. I have had treatment for SIBO, I had a course of Rifaximin and did the low fobmap diet for 6 months. However I still have the symptoms which could also be IBS

Your FT4 is 95% through the range and it’s been found that having too high T4 is not a good idea long term as it has implications of promoting cancer. Your FT3 is too low at 35.14% which means you could do with an addition of Liothyronine alongside a slightly lower dose Levo. It’s low T3 that causes most hypo symptoms. Most GPs don’t appear to realise this. You need to ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist.

whenever I take too much levo, my ft3 always goes low. Goes back up when I ease off the t4
