I've been taking 30 mcg of picolinate which seems to suit me very well and is meant to be easy on the tum. It's still early days to know whether it may make a difference but I'm very much hoping it will in time as zinc deficiency can cause a myriad of problems.

Regenallotment in reply to Delgor

thanks Delgor that is reassuring 🙏

A paper I just found says no more that 40mg as upper limit.

I will start and report back 🌱

It's all very interesting how much vitamin and mineral deficiencies can affect us and not just in relation to the thyroid! Yes I will be interested to hear how you do🤗

Regenallotment profile image
Regenallotment in reply to Delgor

which brand did you go for? I’m wondering about buying 50mg and splitting in half 🤔

Delgor profile image
Delgor in reply to Regenallotment

I bought Pure Encapsulations (have just seen that Eeyore did too). I didn't particularly want to get them from the Dr as usually they prescribe the cheapest stuff which isn't necessarily the right thing for everyone especially if you are trying to cut out as many additives as possible. Will be interesting to see what TiggerMe is prescribed😄

I'll be surprised if she comes up with the goods but wanted to talk to her about the connection with low zinc and albumin levels... been trying to eat lots of eggs this week but oh my days the house smells sulphurous 🤢 not only am I intolerant of eggs but intolerant of myself once I've eaten them 😩

Delgor profile image
Delgor in reply to TiggerMe

OMG - your poor hubby or does the poor dog get the blame🤣🤣 Funny enough I'm intolerant to egg whites and gave up on trying to eat the yolk alone - perhaps I should be checking out albumin levels as well - it's never ending☹️ Hope your appt. goes well🤞

gabkad profile image
gabkad in reply to TiggerMe

There's an article in the Times of India about the six types of farts. Sulfur farts mostly happen if someone is constipated or not pooing regularly. You might not be intolerant of eggs, just not defecating often enough.

Tlflom profile image
Tlflom in reply to gabkad

Magnesium keeps me regular.

TiggerMe profile image
TiggerMe in reply to gabkad

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Brilliant, thanks for this 😆where do I find the full article?

Sadly eggs are 100% on my intolerance list but for comedy value I still partake.... I had some this morning for the sake of albumin as I can't tolerate hemp seeds either 😬

I look 6 months pregnant after eggs 🫄😁

I go every morning these days... is that often enough 🤷‍♀️ I used to go every 3-4 days 😳

Add digestive enzymes in a capsule. This eliminates gas because it helps digest foods.

Heads up, the zinc picolinate I have is in capsule form.

Thanks

Zinc result is in 11.22 (11.1-19.5)

Zinc and copper have a see-saw relationship. One of them can go up and it causes the other to go down. If one of them goes down the other will go up.

This suggests with your zinc being very low in range that your copper might be high in range or over the range.

drjockers.com/copper-zinc-i...

...

This Thyroid UK link mentions Zinc but not copper :

thyroiduk.org/role-of-vitam...

...

Zinc deficiency : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc_...

Zinc toxicity : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc_...

Copper deficiency : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coppe...

Copper toxicity : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coppe...

...

I have, just once that I can remember (or it might have been twice - I'm not sure), come across someone on this forum who had high zinc and low copper. Everyone else with thyroid disease (who has quoted results for both) seems to have low zinc and high copper.

I didn't see this post earlier. Just posted my results.

Like Eeyore's your zinc is horribly low. Mine isn't quite so bad at 35% of range.

I have some 30mg Thorne Zinc picolinate. In a way I have no idea how long and how much to supplement but I think 30mg for me is the way to go. I might do 3 months then retest see what it looks like?

Hi Regen,

I used to supplement with zinc picolinate but switched over to 30 mg of zinc carnosine. It has some benefits for the stomach

I am prescribed Solvazinc 45mg (Galen) for my zinc deficiency. It took the maximum dose of 4 per day to bring my levels up within range. I was told that wholegrains prevent absorption of Zinc. It is not necessary to give them up but do not eat them at the same time as taking zinc. I see from the links given that a deficiency might be indicated in Alzeimers disease.

Regenallotment profile image
Regenallotment in reply to Leaney

yeah I saw the link in the reading, scary stuff, thanks for the info I’ll start and see what the GP says. 🌱

Jaydee1507 profile image
Jaydee1507Administrator in reply to Leaney

Did you get retested and did if so, where in the range did that dose take you to?

I’m not deficient but I’m thinking of taking 30 mg a day to see how I go.

I hope you are continuing to take zinc as the likelyhood is your level will drop without supplements.

Can you tell us what symptoms have improved with zinc supplements?

TiggerMe profile image
TiggerMe in reply to Jaydee1507

Solvazinc contains mannitol 🤷‍♀️

I'll be interested to see if my appetite returns as my zinc levels rise...

Jaydee1507 profile image

As you have a deficiency then I would certainly hope you would reap quite some rewards symptom wise. I will watch with interest.

To get my levels up to normal I had to take Solvazinc 45mg four times daily. Because my GP started me on just one x 45mg per day and didn't inform me about whole grains I was not getting anywhere until I had built up to four per day. This took several years! My levels then just made it into the normal range. Copper was up because of the zinc being low. When I asked about copper he just joked about whether I had copper pipes! I now take one x 45mg per day after a non wholegrain meal. I do need to test again to see how that is working.

Imaaan  TiggerMe  Delgor  SlowDragon  Leaney  Jaydee1507  humanbean next question on timing… when do you all take your zinc?

Here is my schedule.. can you check I’m not doing anything daft.

6.45 100mcg Levo and 5mcg Lio (have recently stopped splitting T4 feels better)

9ish-10ish BComplex and antihistamine

Lunch - Heme iron and selenium

5-6ish Magnesium and D3K2drops

Could zinc be combined with any of these?

thanks 🌱

TiggerMe profile image
TiggerMe in reply to Regenallotment

Good question... Don't really know!

I tend to keep it away from wholegrains as a few have said that restricts the uptake and their levels improved once they did this🤷‍♀️

If it's the capsule I take it first thing, breakfast choice dependant, if not then I would take the liquid, which I tend to put it in a drink whenever I remember... so a flexible approach 🙃

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Regenallotment

I take zinc after breakfast …..along with vitamin B complex

I only take zinc once week now…..used to take 3-4 times week

I also now only take selenium once week - not same day as zinc

Daily Better you vitamin D with K2 (mouth spray)

I would move selenium away from iron …..after breakfast

Have you tested selenium levels?

Regenallotment profile image
Regenallotment in reply to SlowDragon

not tested selenium, hubby had the garlic breath thing and I’ve never had that. I agree it would be good to know but I’ve spent SO much on testing recently it’ll have to wait. Hopefully I can persuade the GP to do it.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Regenallotment

be amazed if you can get tested on NHS

Gastroenterologist recommended I take selenium in 2016 after endoscopy confirmed gluten intolerance

I took daily for a year, then 3-4 days week for another year

Tested

Was over range

Reduced to once week

Not tested since

Thinking of getting tested soon

Regenallotment profile image
Regenallotment in reply to SlowDragon

ahhh i doubt I’ll get that then on the NHS but I’ll ask.

It’s time to start saving for the next lot!

when do you all take your zinc

Any minerals I decide to supplement with are taken at bedtime, and I don't take them every day.

Jaydee1507 profile image
Jaydee1507Administrator

Luckily for me I don’t need iron so that’s one less complicating factor.

I also use topical magnesium oil which further reduces issues.

I’ve not started zinc yet but will later today.

I’m thinking it would be ok in your 9-10 slot. If not then bedtime.

Hey luv,

I take so much supplements that I just dont bother keeping them apart at this point. I'd be inclined to take it at breakfast or lunch .
