I have'nt heard of this for stopping smoking before although I do hope it helps ...I gave up a few yrs ago and as we know it isn't easy!!You can take zinc with levothyroxine. ..zinc is good to take with hypothroidism as it's good for t4 to T3 conversion....but it must be taken a couple of hours away from when you take your levothyroxine as is the same with other vitamins and minerals ..iron and Vit D even longer.
Many thanks for this advice, as you say it is not easy, especially if you have a lot of stressful things going on in your life. I was just concerned that it may effect the levothyroxine as they have still not managed to get my levels correct after 10 months, but I thinks that my stress levels are also not helping the situation.
Getting blood levels right can take some time as so many other factors come in to play!...perhaps you should post your results on the forum for advice.I'm still working on my own as we speak lol!Well all the best of luck and even though it's not easy ..the benefits of stopping are felt very quickly and that will spur you on !
Many thanks again for your response. Whilst they are coming down, and iron etc was also tested. the constant tiredness and meltdowns for no reason have not really improved. The response is 'You are within levels'. During the latest meltdown at the drs, he has referred me back to the endo at the hospital (which has taken 6 weeks to come through!). Once I have been to the consultant on 24th Aug, I will post all the results of the blood tests.
Yes ..this "your in range"business is keeping so many people ill both physically and mentally!Where we are on that range is the key to feeling better!I have had many meltdowns in the gps surgery!Well good luck at the endocrineologists ...at the very least you will get more thorough testing done there but then post it all here on the forum as unless you have a really good endocrineologist those results will not be interpretated correctly and you will still remain in poor health! As an example I had been thinking all my ferritin /b12/folate and vit D were all good as they were all in range (and you need these to be optimal for your thyroid hormones to be utilised properly) but then decided to post on here for debate....turns out they needed adressing. ..so that's what I'm on with amongst other things !best of luck and do post your results...there are some very educated people on here who provide guidance way more than any endocrineologist or gp I've ever seen!
I agree with you totally, the GP knows nothing and apart from requesting more blood tests ot they just pass you back to the endo. I have found this forum very interesting as I have learned more than this than the hospital where they are supposed to be the specialists! For example, I did not know that before you have your bloods done, do not take that mornings tablets and also it is better to have them done 1st thing in the morning.
Yes that's what I also learned on here and you must fast...no food ..only water before test also !
I will see what happens when I do this when my bloods are taken on 21st a couple of days before the appointment. If they come back with some vast difference, I will know that all the other results are not worth the paper they are written on! Thanks for your responses, I sometimes feel as if I am a fraud as many other people on this site have very bad side effects or what I would call being really ill. whilst all have is tiredness. meltdowns and the inability to put weight on despite eating like a horse
Would be good idea to recheck thyroid levels after giving up, especially if you have Hashimoto's.
Smoking and giving up can affect/change thyroid levels. Your GP should be aware and test more regularly

Bwxx in my opinion and my own experience when I quit smoking i learned to deal with stress without the cigarette ..once you stop smoking you start a new relation with yourself and if the cigarette used to be your friend now you realized it was your enemy ...after a couple of weeks starts getting easier ...I am taking zinc but mostly to support my health ..water and detox foods are great when you are quitting Smoking and most important off all distract your mind with something else when you have an urge to smoke the first weeks and you will love your new smokeless life ..keep it up !!! 🌸
Many thanks for your reply, I am failing badly at this point, but I will keep trying!
Taking zinc around 8 milligrams per day should be fine. If you take more it could lead to
Lower levels of good cholesterol and low copper.
I also read somewhere on my travels (not on here ) that if you put a zinc tablet in your mouth for a bit if it tastes chalky you are deficient and if it tastes metalic then you have enough
I will try this and see what happens, thanks
