just a update to say I went to collect my Thybon Henning T3 from Tollesbury pharmacy near Maldon Essex a 2 hour round trip , but extremely helpful pharmacist .. I had to take a letter from my GP and the pharmacist has given me a form for my GP to fill in as he has to keep his records strictly up to date or he could lose his supplier .. and hopefully added to my repeat medications .. The cost as this was a private prescription was £31.00 for 14 x 20mcg which I have to cut into half as my prescription is for 10mcg .. Just wanted say thank you for recommendations for this pharmacy they really are superb ..

That works out very expensive. Did you phone around to get quotes?

List of pharmacies here, many who do mail order. thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-hy...

Cost should be 50-60p per tablet.

I didn’t think that was too bad price wise and the pharmacist was extremely helpful considering I needed his form completed by my doctor and he accepted a letter so I could get my first months worth started .. He was the nearest to me and does do free postage but I wanted to get them asap already wasted a week since I saw endocrinologist. So if his a bit expensive I don’t mind he has been so helpful this is the form I need to get completed .. Thsnks for the link for the pharmacies I have already seen them xx

It's your money, your choice but my preference would be the 50-60p per tablet as opposed to £2.21. Thats going to add up to a lot of cash over time.

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toJaydee1507

obviously I don’t want to over pay but I wanted them ASAP and it was easier to drive there . and the guy was so helpful I really should have had that form completed before he dispensed them so I’m grateful he gave them to me as one pharmacy wouldn’t even fill the script because the endo put 10mcg and they said they wouldn’t give me them to cut in half 🤷‍♀️ . I’m hoping my GP adds them to my repeat .. xx

Jaydee1507 profile image
Jaydee1507Administrator in reply tolynnwin

If the Endo has written 10mcgs on your prescription then you would be better to get him to change that to 20mcgs unless this pharmacy will honour that with Thybon Henning. Many wouldn't, they want the exact doseage written.

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toJaydee1507

yes I know thanks .. but another reason to go to Tollesbury as he was happy to dispense the 20mcg for me to half he said the pharmacies can do it and it’s at the discretion of the pharmacist which I know is true as I’ve had to cut medication before and work in health care .. they only dispense of what is requested anyway .. Tollesbury pharmacy was happy to do it where others wouldn’t .. 🤦‍♀️ xxxxc

Is this from a private endo? I get Thybon on private prescription and pay £60 for 100 tablets, free postage. It started off at £100 then halved to £50, now £60.

@mountainice Are you able to let me know which pharmacy you are getting the Thybon for £60 pounds please? I was recently getting it for this from Smartway Pharmacy but it has gone up to £80 for 100 tabs due to higher import fees.

Hi, the private prescription gets dispensed through Roseway Labs.

Roseway Labs are on my radar for later this month after I’ve done my next blood test. Have you been ok on TH? I’m hoping to get TH or Morningside, I’m currently self medicating with Tiromel. I’ve found the 18.75mcg have ut my TSH below 1 ( I’m happy with in, but not sure if GP will get a bit twitchy!) apparently the prescribing pharmacist is lovely (I hope!). Glad your happy with them, it will be a relief to get a supplier I can rely on.

mountainice profile image
mountainice in reply toAuders

Hello, yes, I was self-medicating too with Tiromel which I bought from abroad. I then saw a private endo and got prescribed Thybon. I think someone on here said it gives more 'smooth' results than Tiromel. Anyway, I have been ok on it.

I’ve only been taking it 2 days .. I got mine from Tollesbury pharmacy the pharmacist was lovely xxx

They have obviously made a charge to dispense a private prescription. Most will charge at least £20.

Star13 profile image
Star13 in reply toStar13

My NHS script is filled with them and they only charge the going NHS rate.

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toStar13

That’s what I’m hoping my GP adds them to my NHS script ? My endo has asked for him to do so .. I work NHS don’t get any perks 🤬 xxxxx

That’s good. At least on internet I can increase size of text . But can’t read messages as can’t magnify them

When do you plan starting it? Xxx

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toDigger031145

you can increase your font on your phone .. my font is really big on my phone so I don’t have to put my glasses on 🤦‍♀️ starting Friday as I’m off Friday so 3 days without work in case I get jittery like the endo said ? No one wants a phlebotomist with a shaky hand lol 😂 xxxx

Digger031145 profile image
Digger031145 in reply tolynnwin

you won’t get jittery though. Honestly you won’t.

I’ve no idea how to increase the font on my phone. It’s a really old iPhone xx

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toDigger031145

think you go into settings and go to font and you can increase it .. I suppose because he said I might feel jittery I’m expecting too 🤦‍♀️ forgot to get a pill cutter as if I’m spiriting them into 4 I might mess it up xxxx

Digger031145 profile image
Digger031145 in reply tolynnwin

you won’t feel jittery though darling. You’re starting low so that will allow your system to clear the higher dose of t4 that you were taking over the first week .

You’ll be fine darling xxx

On an iphone, the simplest answer is often to allow the display to rotate. Then just turn the phone to landscape or portrait depending on what you are viewing.

Apple's instructions for allowing rotate are here (but might not apply to your IOS version - use the dropdown to select the IOS version you are using).

Good luck.

If it works for you, hopefully your GP can increase the size of the prescription next time, so that if there is a flat charge for it being a private prescription, you at least get more pills with it.

Others here who are commenting on this being expensive, are you willing / able to share your local U.K. pharmacies where it is cheaper (also using a private prescription), and the price? And if so, could you please?

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toHowNowWhatNow

Thank you .. yes I hope it works for me and my GP puts them on NHS for me ..

You are entitled to.your results. Insist.

Bearo profile image
Bearo in reply toioae4

Are you in the uk? In the uk you are entitled to a copy of any test results. It’s generally easiest to ask the receptionist to print it out but if the GP wants to speak to you about the results the receptionist will only give you a printout afterwards.

Lots of people are able to see their results on the health apps.

When you get your results post them on here to get some personalised advice.

Have you tried Thybon before ? I've just started on Armour. My endo gave me a script for it and I googled a few pharmacies and eventually got one for £115 for 90 tablets, 60mcg. I was on three grains of Thyroid S so literally just switching brands but I'm going to go half in the morning and half in the afternoon and see how I get on. I tried to order with my local pharmacy and he could only get it at £400 🫣🫣🫣

I get my Thybon Henning 20mcg x100 tablets for £60. Your pharmacy seems quite expensive.

There is a form.that has to be completed every year to enable the supplier to issue it to the pharmacist. It is a pain. I believe it is since Brecit and because TH is not a UK approved medication.

From what I recall the form.is for your gp to confirm that this medicatjon is not being supplied for weight loss. That it is being supplied for hypoT.

Just another hoop to jump through!

I do wonder what if any forms for other non UK drugs there are.

The pharmacist wont supply unless the form is back with them. Make a diary note to ensure it is in place when you need it to be next year, to avoid delays in meds.

Imo more madness!

UrsaP profile image
UrsaP in reply toUrsaP

ps...didnt realise the form.needs filling if private and having to buy!

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply toUrsaP

'the form.is for your gp to confirm that this medicatjon is not being supplied for weight loss'

This seems such an outdated concept. I understand it was done in the US in the past, but does/has anyone in the UK ever prescribed it for weight loss? I can't imagine such a thing happening!

UrsaP profile image
UrsaP in reply toRedApple

Exactly! Ridiculous isn't it. I said as much to chemist and pointed out HypoT is lifelong but clearly a gov thing. insisting suppliers confirm this every year! IMO just another hurdle and delaying tactic.

As I said do people getting othernon UK meds have to fill in these forms or are hypoS veing discriminated?

UrsaP profile image
UrsaP in reply toUrsaP

Of course, to complain is to be so very ungrateful when getting t3 on nhs.

Brightness14 profile image
Brightness14 in reply toUrsaP

i live in France and my T3 is free here, I am lucky I know.

It's a pity the food doesn't live up to the health care system.

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toRedApple

I didn’t realise it was used for weight loss ?? It was only when I saw the form for the GP to fill in I saw one off the questions was please confirm this isn’t being used for weight loss ? I’m only on day Two of taking it and starting slowing not with the actual amount the endo prescribed xxxx

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply tolynnwin

lynnwin, I think it's a very mis understood thing about thyroid hormones, by both doctors and patients. The (mistaken) belief is that if you overdose on thyroid hormones, T3 in particular, you'll lose lots of weight.

In reality, it doesn't necessarily work like this. Some people put on weight when hypERthyroid, and some people lose weight when hypOthyroid.

mountainice profile image
mountainice in reply toRedApple

I've lost nearly a stone, no dieting. On T3 (plus levo), but been on it a couple of years so don't know why I should lose weight now

UrsaP profile image
UrsaP in reply tolynnwin

I doubt any dr in the UK issues T3 of any sort for weight loss. IMO that question is laughable if it wasn’t such an insult.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply toUrsaP

And if any doctor did so, and I do mean strictly for weight loss alone, they would be roundly condemned by most of us.

We know inappropriate thyroid hormone levels have profound and serious effects - too high and too low, in wrong balance, etc.

UrsaP profile image
UrsaP in reply tohelvella

Yes exactly. I feel they are just mocking us.

lynnwin profile image
lynnwin in reply toUrsaP

Hi yes I’ve got that form he said I only had to do it once and they keep it on file .. ??

I have added the form here

UrsaP profile image
UrsaP in reply tolynnwin

Getting TH brand via NHS the form has to be repeated annually. I know others who also have this hoop to jump through. Would be interesting to know if it is the same form.
