which is the r best iodine test?: I am looking... - Thyroid UK
which is the r best iodine test?
Probably none! See healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
Ari3
Often mentioned here as the best iodine test is the non-loading urine test from Genova Diagnostics which they describe as
This test is not performed as a loading test, but can be used to establish existing levels or to monitor iodine supplementation.
You'll find it on page 3 of the pdf here, Urine Iodine Test - Order Code END25

Guidance on how to order and how to receive your results are on ThyroidUK's main website here:

You can post results on the forum but the results are pretty straightforward to interpret, you can see a sample report in the screenshot below
Are you on thyroid medication? I would expect that the iodine in the urine (which is the more reliable test) will be normal/high if you are on medication.
If you are on medication, some/most/all (depending on your dose) of your iodine intake will be eliminated in the urine and stool and some of the iodine in the medication will be eliminated as well.
What information are you hoping to obtain from an iodine test?
years ago I was moderate deficient in iodine on red mark that’s why I want re test and see if I need iodine . Iam on NDT not sure if this med contain iodine .
Al thyroid hormones contain Iodine .
Thyroid hormone is basically composed of iodine .
T4 is '4 iodine atoms' .
T3 is '3 iodine atoms' ,
this is the same whether the T4/ T3 come from levo/ T3 ... or NDT ....or your own thyroid
i can't remember how much that is in terms of how many mgs Iodine you get from an average daily dose ,, but it's guite a significant proportion of the recommended daily amount of 150mcg Iodine ... ( ? might be about 65mcg per 100mcg Levo , but i'd have to check that )
yes 100mcg Levo = 63 mcg Iodine , see this : dropbox.com/s/vp5ct1cwc03bl...
Further to my reply on this earlier, please also note that:
1. Dr Sara Myhill does not test iodine (videolink evidence wouldnt copy across!).
2. A poster on this forum was sceptical about I testing 3m ago (see below) and still is following a retest according to recent private message. Maybe worth a pm to him before you proceed? Let me know if you do. Ive held off re-testing for the above reasons and those stated in my earlier link/reply.
Out of interest, did you choose to test. As per my response, I've held off based on unreliability of any test according to details on my related links.
