going hyper?

I’ve posted before, my last results showed t4 top of range while t3 still only 4.1

I’ve had major problems getting bloods done so now have to wait another 3 weeks after a messed up test

My heart is pounding and keeping me awake, I have a chronic low grade headache very dry all the time despite drinking water all day

I’m a bit worried I’m over medicated on t4 and wondering if I should drop to 50 but am aware of the test in 3 weeks and don’t want to skew the results.

Any thoughts?

thanks

A couple of months ago you posted;

FT4: 21.7 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22) 97.00%

FT3: 4.1 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8) 27.03%

As    SlowDragon noted at the time, you are showing poor conversion/ need to improve key thyroid vitamins.

I too experience ‘hyper’ like symptoms (palpitations, anxiety, tremor etc) if FT4 goes over range, but I am on combination treatment, so take a small amount of Liothyronine in addition to Levothyroxine to ensure my FT3 is higher in the range. Combination treatment can only be prescribed by an endocrinologist willing to consider this option.

As you are hypothyroid and taking Levo, you cannot become hyperthyroid BUT may experience some hyper-like symptoms if your medication needs adjusting.

A list of thyroid -friendly endos (NHS and private) can be requested by contacting Thyroid UK:tukadmin@thyroiduk.org

thanks that’s really useful information i was just worried I might have a heart attack🤣

As I have poor absorption I’m working with a nutritionist and am seeing some improvement in gut issues

I have the list of endos and will follow that up when I get next set of results if t3 still stuck which I imagine it will be.

Which brand of levothyroxine are you taking

Definitely don’t change dose otherwise testing is waste of time

Give increased dose time to settle

Meanwhile ……For good conversion rates we need good vitamin levels

Previous vitamin results

Folate 9.94 (>3.89)

Active b12 136 (37.5-150)

Vit d 64 (50-200)

Ferritin 41 (13-150)

You are on B12 injections.

Is that for Pernicious Anaemia or just low B12

What other vitamin supplements are you taking

Look at increasing iron rich foods in your diet to improve ferritin

Vitamin D likely better At around 100-125nmol

Are you taking daily vitamin B complex

I’m working with a nutritionist to heal gut issues and absorption problems I have pernicious anaemia so do injections monthly and when I finally get my bloods done I will do the medichecks thyroid panel with b12 and d and ferritin again. I’m taking a and d plus enzymes and all sorts of gut pills and potions and some improvement my diet is low gluten rather than no so I can go further with that

I feel I need to look at trying t3 Will see what results are.

Have you had BOTH TPO and TG antibodies tested for autoimmune thyroid disease, also called Hashimoto’s

If not, get these tested

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

20% of Hashimoto's patients never have raised antibodies

Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue with Hashimoto’s

Request coeliac blood test BEFORE considering trial on strictly gluten free diet

thanks I’ve had coeliac screen negative, also antibodies are low but I do have pernicious anaemia so wonder about autoimmune aspect. I have normal size thyroid with 0.7mm nodules which they may look at again one day

I’m pretty sure I don’t convert well, but need that second blood test to confirm t3 hasn’t moved while t4 has gone to top of range.

NHS usually only tests TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are positive

It’s ALWAYS worth trying strictly gluten free diet.

And few months later consider trialing dairy free
